I am looking to relocate out of New York with my (very conservative) Family. We are currently looking specifically in the Daytona-area in Florida and near Nashville, Tennessee. My wife and I travelled to Florida last week and met realtors; we plan on heading to Nashville next.
They State of NY has already killed my father in a nursing home and now are are requiring shot after shot for my kids to go to school. We need to get out ASAP.
I would appreciate any suggestions, thoughts, or comments from Freepers. Thanks.
Arkansas has a very low cost of living and affordable property...and its a firm Red State.
We escaped Virginia to Tennessee but we chose Knoxville. Nashville is pretty much the Los Angeles of the south and the gov’t. is profligate. They had to raise property taxes 34% because the mayor went on a building binge. Knoxville is sane.
You wouldn’t like rural Indiana. No use even loking here.
“Go Wyoming”
Considering Wyoming. Where in that state is it good to retire?
Stay SOUTH of Nashville.
Go to the countryside outside of Nashville. Nashville itself sucks like any other Communist USSA big city.
If you don’t mind heat and flat terrain, you could try Texas. I know of a great little conservative area outside of Houston, it’s the Tomball area. 45 minutes or so from Houston but plenty of stuff there with a country feel too. Don’t know that hospitals are trustworthy with Covid patients in Texas though but that’s in a lot of places too. The hospitals are good there but sometimes heavy handed.
You might consider rural Northern Kentucky. Minutes to the airport, minutes to the still non third world city of Cincinnati. Cost of living is about as good as it gets. The climate is very similar to Nashville.

Good post. Other than UT, Knoxville is a good city and great area to live in.
Maybe consider north Alabama - the Tennessee Valley region, and on down to Cullman..
Huntsville area is booming with plenty of jobs. Housing and cost of living are reasonable, especially if you live in a bedroom community.
High tech area, with good schools.
The climate is great, with 4 real seasons.
The Smoky Mountains are 3-4 hours away. Alabama and the Florida panhandle have beautiful beaches 4-5 hours away.
People are conservative here, without apology.
Do some research, and include North Alabama.
I am essentially a 50 year resident, and you can PM me with any specific questions.
If florida, look for least developed area. I live in central FL. Buildings going up everywhere. West coast above Tampa pretty rural still. Should stay that way awhile. Probably avoid college town Gainesville though.
Knoxville and Eastern TN in general strikes me as more conservative than Nashville, but I only transit TN, don’t live there. You’re going to want to be out of Nashville proper is my impression, probably at least 1 county away.
I would agree. While there is no shortage of NYers in FL, you’re a Yankee. It’s nice in FL right now but summer lasts a long time and it’s hot and humid. 95-98 degrees with 100% humidity for months on end is tough. I’m originally from MA and moved to FL when I was 19. Lived in FL for 25 years and never really got used to the heat. We finally got priced out of the game and moved to a flyover state. I don’t really fit in here but have met a couple of people I can relate to because they come from up North.
What about places like Indiana, Ohio, Wisconson etc? Still somewhat Northern.
The FL governor race was pretty close. DeSantis 49.6%, Gillum the commie 49.2% - I still think of FL as a little Cali and think it will go blue eventually.
IF you want to stay up north, you may want to consider NH.
WE could use another conservative voter.
I could suggest places to visit around southern NH.
Lived in Pensacola Fl. and loved it ! Pennsylvania isn’t as bad as NY but I’ve been nosing around the middle of Texas on the internet quite a bit and that’s my first pick.
Have you looked at Prescott, AZ? Phoenix/Scottsdale is insane in pricing and Tucson to close to the border/Leftist hell hole. Prescott is a very nice, family oriented smaller city.
IF you want a change of seasons you might also consider the mountains of NC. Not Ashville. North of there along the TN border. IMHO, one of the best areas east of the the Rockies.
Don’t overlook Mobile Alabama or Coastal LA. The “Redneck Riviera.”
Heads up. Nashville traffic can be soul crushing.
Between the man eating sharks and alligators, water moccasins, mosquitoes big as cats and hurricanes, unless you have deathwish I’d recommend nobody ever, ever move to Florida.
It truly is hell on earth.
As a matter of fact we are considering Tennessee ourselves.
If you own a home in NY you should have no problems buying a bigger home for less money in Florida and there’s no state income tax. As long as you can find work, Daytona beach sounds like a good idea.
