I am sure that is the reason why so many Democrats are retiring in the face of a GOP landslide. They do not want to needlessly blow their TAX-FREE retirement fund!!!!!

Graft over principle. They traded political capital for money, making them very unpopular but quite wealthy...so its time to take their money and run. That’s what con artists do.

This is definitely *one* of the reasons.

I suspect another: They are less likely to be prosecuted for their crimes if they have already left office.

If our country cared about good governance for ordinary people , we would end all tax free status. People who want to donate to a true charity, such as their church or their local hospital, which would still donate.

Democrat mega donors donate to tax free 5013C groups that then use the money to promote leftist causes. The few Republicans mega donors donate to the Republican Party bigs who spend millions on consultants and TV ads. Dems get out the vote. We bore people on television.

More likely a mudslide. GOP “victories” tend to be disappointing. Just saying.

Wouldn’t it be nice if ending all these legislative cutouts, loopholes, and gimmicks were part of one party’s legislative agenda? I don’t care which one, but one of them...

Somehow, all the politicians who get elected to end these types of legislative cutouts and “get money out of politics” end up getting real quiet on the subject after their first campaign.

Also, if there is an opposition party majority, they lose their [lucrative] chairmanships for the next session.

Many choose to leave because big $$$ supporters have [lucrative] jobs as board members, directorships, managerial level positions waiting for them. They still have influence in a lot of governmental concerns.

We can only hope this is a good thing.

However, I am suspicious of anything the demcorats do and wonder what is up with that.

And after watching the goings on in NY where one democrat after another is being replaced by a more rabid liberal one than the before, I am not quite so optimistic.

I wonder who/what the dems are going to offer in their place.

They need to stay in their little paradise states or districts they created and pay their fair share. NOT retire to a free state.

The “foundation” has to be one of the biggest scams going.

It’s a common loophole designed for the wealthy.

Create a “charitable foundation”.

Donate much of your wealth to it.

Appoint your kids as “trustees” with high salaries.

Cross-deal with other non-profits set up by your wealthy friends, who then cross-deal with your foundation.

Good point - it’s a REALLY STUPID law that needs to be changed. Any unspent money should simply go into the general treasury. While it’s not much money, by Treasury standards, it at least gets rid of that self-enriching path.

Bob Dole resigned his Senate seat in order to run for President, he did not 'retire'. Upon defeat in the 1996 POTUS election then yes, he had effectively 'retired', but it's doubtful that he'd go thru all that trouble just to gain the $40 million.
