I read a book, whose name I do not recall, about sleep a number of years ago. It said that we go through several sleep cycles every night ranging from 2 to 3 hours. As we age, some people wake up during the light sleep phase. You may have to get up to go to the bathroom or whatever.

The key is not to fully wake up your brain by watching TV, reading a screen, listening to talk radio, etc., but relax and try to go back to sleep right away. Several of these cycles can add up to a decent night’s sleep. I listen to audio books on a timer so that I can go back to whatever I missed after I fall asleep. It can be frustrating but not as much as having very little sleep total.

And we have to factor in that all people are different.

My younger sister can’t sleep without the TV on in her room.

Her hubby has to sleep in a lounge chair because of health issues so the TV doesn’t bother him.

I could never sleep with any noise going on in the room.
