For a big name film, most production companies earn 50%-60% of the first run box office. The theaters receive the balance. With theaters struggling so badly during the pandemic, it is possible their traditional share has been increased.
Producers have several other revenue sources - streaming, cable TV fees, network TV, videos, product endorsements within the film, etc.

Maybe it’s because it’s a woke POS telling of a story nobody asked to be retold. .......
......maybe.

Maybe today’s movie audience does not care to see a bunch of Juvenile Delinquents jumping around “like a bunch of Kansas City Faggots!” (stole that from Blazing Saddles.)

It’s very sad but it’s a wonderful film. I highly recommend anyone who likes WSS in any way to see it on a big screen if you can.

The super wealthy aren’t looking to make more money… Spielberg knew it was a dead loser when he made the final cut. Doesn’t matter.

Only one reason this movie was made.
Steven wants to win another Oscar.

They originally decided to update Romeo and Juliet by putting it in an American city in the mid-20th century, with street gangs.
Then, 60 years later they decided to update it again bu doing pretty much a repeat.
They should do “updates” better.

Having recently bought a big Sony 4K TV (got it real cheap) I cannot see myself entering a movie theater ever again. I can borrow the bluray (or 4K) of a film that interests me from our library.

Had a movie filmed in nearby town...this last 8 months or more.
Heard it cost over 200 million to produce.
I know ONE scene that prolly lasted 12-15 seconds had to cost them 100's of thousands of $$$..
They did that scene twice....
Might be a interesting movie...might not.
FWIW-

Oh, but Spielberg had to “improve” on it.
The demon of progressives is to “improve”. Thereby they destroy the original.

I knew this was going to happen as there was no real demand to remake this except to make PC and Woke. Spielberg needs to retire, he has literally run out of creative juice. His day is past I guess.

This ‘West Side Story’ is a remake of a movie which was a remake of a musical which was a remake of Shakespeare’s play ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Just how much money did they think they could make?

I have not seen it. I expect it to be “Woke” because of who made it and the times we are in. Many people are calling it “Woke”. But I have yet to see anyone describe one example. They just fight about if it is or is not without giving any examples.
