Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said on Wednesday that coronavirus “vaccines are saving lives” and “are reducing mortality.”
“If you are vaccinated, fully vaccinated, the chances of you getting seriously ill or dying from Covid is effectively zero,” he said. “If you look at the people being admitted to hospitals, over 95 percent of them are either not fully vaccinated or not vaccinated. And so these vaccines are saving lives.”
DeSantis also touted the vaccines for reducing mortality rates.
“They are reducing mortality. Mortality in nursing homes since we rolled out the vaccines in December is down 95 percent due to Covid. Mortality for elderly people since we rolled out the vaccines is down nearly 90 percent,” he said. “So we’re proud in Florida that we put seniors first on that list because they were the most vulnerable. We have 85 percent of our seniors that are vaccinated and about 75 percent of folks over the age of 50. We have no mandate. We’ve provided information to people and we’ve been very honest about any data that comes out.”
DeSantis acknowledged that some vaccinated people “can test positive … but they don’t get seriously ill in except maybe rare instances, there’s always one-off on stuff.”
However, continued the governor, “in Florida, your chance of surviving if you’re vaccinated is close to 100 percent.”

President Trump and Governor DeSantis had to make decisions based on reality - not made up fantasy in their heads you simply want to be true - for whatever reason.
There was nothing inaccurate about his statement in July. He was simply stating the facts. He still does.
DeSantis was thankfully not interested in that kind of nonsense.

I was wondering if the vaccines really reduced severity. Finally a source I trust. One not in the pocket of pharma or biased by ego.

We have an excellent idea what the long term effects are of mRNA. This is the problem. People don’t really understand the basic science. From people who call mRNA genes and genetic treatment to people who erroneously say it’s causing blood clots (actually is the JJ that is causing thrombosis which is the standard vaccination) to the misrepresentation of the self limited myocarditis risk it is typical behavior of liberal ideology. Argue the emotion and don’t look at the facts while trying to be right at all costs.
You are incorrect in much of what you said. These are the facts.
This was at the peak of cases in Florida, when 24,000 was the 7-day average.
Now it is back up to 14,000 and rising like a straight vertical line, just like all the other states.
Why do you think he would say something different now?
We now know the vaccines do not prevent getting covid. I haven’t seen any definitive and objective data showing that the vaccines reduce severity. If you have that kind of data, post it.
He said then 95% were unjabbed. That was a lie then, now they dont even try to claim that.
He seems to be as ignorant as President Trump on this issue.

DeSantis does not play up his military record. His supporters do, though and I for one, agree it should not be part of the conversation. He was a JAG officer for crying out loud.
What he does play up is his conservative approach to governance, which is clearly the truth.

You’re right and really it’s not all that complicated. Not making a basic distinction based on age was one of the huge mistakes of this whole Covid business.
