It’s Official: Generator Ban Passes in California
RV Miles ^ | December 10, 2021 | Staff

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) passed a regulation aimed at “Small Off-Road Engines” on Thursday that will ban the sale of portable generators in the state — which includes generators mounted in recreational vehicles.

The ruling bans the sale of gas-powered leaf blowers and lawnmowers in the state beginning in 2024. Portable generators will be required to meet more stringent standards in 2024 and meet zero-emission standards starting in 2028.

In the 2024 model year, portable generators will have to improve their efficiency by somewhere between 40% and 90%, which seems unrealistic in such a short period of time, so the reality is, it will be very hard to find a generator in Calfornia in two years.

Maybe each Mexican sneaking across the border can carry a generator with him. Laws broken while crossing the border don't appear to matter.

Its ridiculous we even have to buy generators to back up California’s 3rd world electrical grid.

I’m lucky to have installed a whole house generator already.

Most people will continue to lose a whole freezer full of expensive food any time PGE shuts off power.

“I don’t know for certain what life will look like in CA in about two or three years...”

Think the Escape from New york or Mad Max movies

Can’t they just order online or drive out of state if sales in CA will be banned? It’s a small thing, but when I lived in LA, I purchased shower heads when I visited KC.

It’s pure insanity. The original target was the gas-powered leaf blowers that everyone hates, and somehow got extended to generators. These people just don’t care how their edicts impact ordinary people.

How are they going to charge their teslas when some of the charging stations are diesel powered? LOL - the babylon bee couldn’t write better stuff than the california general assembly can come up with.

I had twenty wonderful years in CA, half in Marina del Rey in SoCal and half in San Francisco and lovely Mendocino. Wonderful memories including children and dogs running on the beach.

. Went back to SoCal for a funeral in the late nineties, couldn’t recognize the place then...and now? Who’d be nuts enuff to live there?

Such a very sad situation.

How many landscapers will buy all brand new equipment in 2024 and then nothing after?

There could be a black market for gas powered lawn mowers starting in 2025.

What is John Deere, Cub Cadet, Exmark, Skag, Ferris, Snapper, Briggs & Stratton, do in 2025?

” Can’t they just order online or drive out of state if sales in CA will be banned? “

Nope. Online retailers won’t ship banned products or if they do and get caught it’s big fines. And I’m not sure — does CA still have it’s state line inspection stations? Hard to hide a 10 kW generator, although it would fit in a covered pickup bed. But then there’s already neighborhood Karens to snitch on you.

Good for California. The more stupidity they exhibit, the less likely that the rational states will be sucked into the void.

CARB is about as dumb as someone can get. They used to have red sticker motorcycles for offroad from may to oct. The M/c has a 1.5 gallon tank and you could burn maybe 2 tanks in a day. But it was OK to drive your pickup to get to where you ride and burn 40 gallons of fuel! lol

Now you will have to run your RV motor to charge your batteries. More fuel to run that than the generator. lol

From now on the generators will have to be powered by batteries.

I must wonder what people will do during rolling blackouts and power outages from wildfires.

They will die.

No worries. It's only small engines that are to be banned

Slap a 400kw gen head on this baby and you'll be able to run the neighborhood
