I was in third grade. Happy to be a Friday and looking forward to drawing and coloring instead of catechism class after lunch.
Almost 2. Likely my 3 older brothers were farting in my face every chance they got. That’s the story.
The first Iever heard about JFK’s sex scandals, I was going to college and an elective I chose was “Law 101”. The lawyer/teacher took us on a field trip to the Federal Building in downtown Chicago. We visited the FBI and the Secret Service. If I remember right, the SS agent who was in charge of the Chicago office told us about JFK’s womanizing. He claimed that he was the agent that actually drove Kennedy to clandestine meetings with different women.
And I trust you have great memories of 3rd grade.
;)
I had just turned 8 and in 2nd grade in Nichols Independent School.
I have no memories of the day - at all.
I remember being confused on Sunday when Oswald was killed. I was like, “Hey, if he killed the president shouldn’t we be glad he got what he deserved?” Childlike simplistic thinking but still sort of right. But also probably based on watching a few too many Westerns where the bad guy gets it in the end.
I did recently ask my older brother what he remembered. He would have been in 8th grade in the same school. He said one of the girl students had a transistor radio and told one of the teachers who doubted her. But eventually they had the janitor, who had a radio in his shop, listen and confirmed it.
He couldn’t remember if we got out early or not.
And like others of my age and maturity, I was very upset that there was NOTHING on TV for a long time, on every channel, just news coverage. I was CERTAIN at least the Beverly Hillbillies would be on - that was the most popular show at the time. But even that was pre-empted, of course.
“I can still hear the screams of all the little girls “
I can still hear the cheers of all the kids in study hall. (Conservstive town.)
They just wanted to help you build up your innate immunity.
Back then we did things the old fashioned way.
I was about to turn 3. I don’t specifically remember the news of his death but have a vivid snapshot memory of the funeral. It is the earliest memory I have that I can put a date on.
Sitting in the first row of the Physics 131 class in Ryerson at University of Chicago. As someone who had worked for Nixon and against Kennedy in my last year of high school, I was sorry for the death of a relatively young man, but not devastated. We all went back to our dorms and it was very quiet.
I was a kid, home from school with a cold.
Forgot about that picture. I’ll bet she was human back then!
I got my first horse in 1963. I was 9 years old. Those were the best days of my life.

I was in school here:

The place still exists. It looked old then!
Both sides thought God himself died.
what did they think of his brother, the swimmer?
I wasn’t even close to being conceived yet.
I was in Marine Corps boot camp. We had just marched to the rifle range, and the range master announced the news. We marched back to our area and were told to be ready to pack up and be issued ammo. Didn’t know where we would be going, but we were ready! Oorah!
