Vanity: Need a replacement for PayPal

Posted on 11/15/2021 6:57:29 AM PST by mistfree

I know I should have done this a long time ago but... I need to ditch PayPal. Can my Freeper buddies suggest an alternative? Thanks

Good for you...here is another person who has done the same with a much lengthier list...it will all add up...and they know it.

Must remember that PayPal was started to allow anonymous purchases of porn.

Paypal is as safe as reverse Russian Roulette (five live rounds). I have scrupulously avoided it, as I was not even in my teens when I observed how much grief it caused ebay sellers — and buyers too.
But about a year ago I needed to purchase something and the merchant gave me only two options, Paypal or some alternative I never heard of. So I used Paypal. Within a month there was so much hinky business in my checking account, including fees to businesses I never patronized, charges I never authorized — I had to assume a breach of some kind and close the bank account.
Nothing compared to the innumerable horror stories all over the web about encounters with Paypal. It’s absolute poison. Just say no!

Get a debit or credit card from a small, local bank. The big guys suck. All of them.

You should be going back to the merchant that sold you the item - they should be facilitating the return and providing you with a shipping label and a refund. If they won’t, then you do a charge-back on the credit-card you used via Paypal (assuming that’s how you’re set up to pay via them).”

This purchase was made by my wife who thought she had to use paypal. PayPal says they have contacted the merchant and it is the merchant who is insisting upon my returning the box before issuing a credit. The merchant is located in China. I’m very suspicious that this is a scam. Advertise one product and ship a different product. It seems like they’re hoping I’ll go away. First, I did contact PayPal and took the side of the merchant and they insisted I return the unordered item. (credit card company insists I have no obligation to return and item I didn’t order.)

PayPal has offered to reimburse shipping costs up to $30. I told them i would return the object if they provided a shipping paid label for what ever the shipping costs. PayPal has refused to do so. It’s pissing me off, they want me to take time to travel to a shipper, ship the item, and then they will possibly reimburse me???

I didn’t receive the item I ordered. I received an item I didn’t order. Fairness would indicate that PayPal arrange to pick up the item and return it their expense.

BTW, I have an email from PayPal admitting that I should receive a refund but claiming that I must return the item first.

FYI, when PP become so obstinate, I contacted the credit cared company and they state they will ensure this is solved to my satisfaction.

“No firearm purchases.”

Silly PayPal rules + the shortages + prices going up + the Wife putting her foot down...kinda killed my fun. I can navigate around all of those roadblocks except the Wife.

PP has been the easiest way to donate or buy items and i often have used a PayPal “cash/debit card” but if you have dispute, well, do not expect fast or sure resolution nor ease of it. My first attempted refund was refused since the seller was somehow able to produce a delivery confirmation but which did not come, and yet the image of the delivery confirmation said about 2 lbs even though the unit ordered was about 50 lbs!

Consider my second case in which I too quickly made a “purchase” of bicycle parts from a seller which was a scam, but not only were the instructions on obtaining a refund unclear, esp. since I used the cash card, but it took 2 months to finally obtain the refund. Start from the bottom:

"#2 they are making it very difficult to log on especially when using a vpn
#3 they have changed their terms and conditions and I don’t like/agree with the new terms.

Only been using PayPal for less than a year...
Have only used it four times...
Main dislike is all the their spam they send me...

OTOH, I have not read any of their announcements of agreement changes...

What are the problematic ones...

Till this thread, I had never heard of that...
How about some details about it...

Look at the link I cited in post 34. This gives a pretty fair description.

I’ve been using PayPal for 20 years — mostly in conjunction with eBay but other things like Uber also — with no incidents and no suspicious activity in linked accounts. Wonder why you encountered such a hornet’s nest?

I don’t receive PayPal spam, just notices like the recent change in terms and transaction reports. I think you need to modify notification preferences somewhere.
