That is kind of sad and funny at the same time.

And I really like the Vikings, but don’t give credit where it is not due.

Really nice exchanging ideas with you and you told me things I did not realize.

And that was good

Regards

Fictionalized events in the TV series notwithstanding, there is no evidence of a compass in Europe until the 12th Century, nor any evidence that the Vikings might have had some sort of hillbilly substitute, nor of any other blue water sailing technology.

However, they did have a lot of brass, and they managed to find a lot of stuff by accident. The Azores are nearly the same distance from the coast of Portugal as Iceland is from the coast of Norway, and there’s no question but that they sailed to Iceland, which settles the question of whether they could sailed as far as the Azores in an open boat.

It figures that the bones that carbon-dated that old were part of the kitchen rubbish on a cruise ship...

Did Vikings beat Portugal to the Azores?

Maybe, but they sure didn't beat the Cowboys.

I didn’t know that Portugal had a football team.

Of course they do! They just insist on using their feet to advance the ball.

***When you’re dealing with someone who’s sad & funny at the same time, you’re dealing with a fool. The Vikings were maybe a bunch of fools.

The Scandanavians were highly prized sex slaves to first the early Greeks and later the Romans.
