The scale for geomagnetic storms runs from G1, or minor storm, to G5, an extreme storm.

Imagine china getting a direct hit from a G5.

Grew up in eastern Canada aurora borealis or northern lights were commonplace ... particularly in the late fall, winter & early spring months. The story goes that if you whistle a tune they will dance for you. Haven't seen the northern lights in decades.
