Children were born infected with HIV. Their mothers were incapable of caring for them or died of AIDS. All treatments were experimental back in the 80s.
I remember reading about the people who fostered or adopted the children with HIV. The best of them saints and heroes. They consented to treatment to give their children a chance. Of course children died. Some of them may have been injured by the treatment. The alternative was painful deterioration and death.
