A distraught Alec Baldwin repeatedly asked why was he given a “hot gun” after his prop weapon accidentally discharged on his New Mexico film set Thursday, killing a cinematographer and injuring the director, witnesses have claimed.
The tragic accident unfolded while Baldwin was filming his upcoming western film “Rust” at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Sante Fe.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, died and director, Joel Souza, 48, was injured after they were both struck when the gun discharged, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said.
Immediately after the incident, an eyewitness told Hollywood gossip site Showbiz 411 that Baldwin started asking how he could have been given a “hot gun” – meaning a firearm loaded with real ammunition.
“In all my years, I’ve never been handed a hot gun,” the actor allegedly kept saying.

Absolutely true in every instance when a gun is involved.
I think that was a show called Alias Smith and Jones.
I don’t get it but its happened before. Remember Brandon Lee getting killed on the set of “The Crow”?
You can’t shoot a movie if you follow rule number two. At least certain kinds of movies. Thousands of scenes require pointing a gun at someone without the actor willing to kill anyone.
Why would Baldwin even point a gun at a non-actor.
Another likely scenario is that he was goofing around with the gun and fired it at them. Or, knowing Alec and his short fuse, he was holding the gun, they said something that pissed him off and he angrily fired it at them, trying to scare them.
In either case, I believe that it was an accident and seriously doubt that he knew about the live rounds. But he certainly doesn’t deserve all of the sympathy and support that he has been receiving until all of the facts come out regarding what led up to the shooting.
This is on you, Alec.
I don’t know, but I thought prop guns were designed to fire blanks but not real ammo. Also, the gasses from a blank could wound or kill someone at close range.
That leads me to a question. Could blank rounds be made at some odd size that could not chamber in a real gun, and for the same reason a prop gun could be designed to chamber an odd sized blank but not real ammo. So instead of 9mm blanks, the blanks could be slightly smaller and shorter. Then a prop gun that looks like a 9mm gun would really be chambered too narrow and short to accept real 9mm ammo but it would accept blanks. That would add a safety factor.
#1 guns don’t “accidentally” discharge.

Exactly. But all these know-it-all’s won’t ever get the point.

Live ammo in a prop gun sounds like a plot device in a cheap detective series. Didn’t I see this in an episode of Columbo or Perry Mason?
Should be some good video of the incident.
Yes, my question as well. Was the discharge during the shooting of a scene?
Or he could have just been running through a rehearsal of an upcoming scene with the camera gal and director just standing there. Who knows at this point, anything’s possible in hollyweird land.

This was a later show.
A man / woman team, a spy, intelligence type thing.
I'm sure the talking heads will reference, in relation to this.
As I have mentioned in another thread, it is stunning that any of the guns used in these movies even remotely have any possibility of launching a projectile. They often point those guns directly at a cameraman…..right? Somebody help me out here.
This guy is a loose cannon nutcase like all progressive idiots. I feel sorry for anyone that comes in contact with this fool.
He needs to retire from public life.
I recall Alec sitting as guest on a talk show, saying some very hateful things about Republican Henry Hyde.
I don’t recall the exact topic, but recall the host looking rather surprised at the viciousness of Alecs remark.
