Alec Baldwin asked why was he given ‘hot gun’ after fatal film set shooting

A distraught Alec Baldwin repeatedly asked why was he given a “hot gun” after his prop weapon accidentally discharged on his New Mexico film set Thursday, killing a cinematographer and injuring the director, witnesses have claimed.

The tragic accident unfolded while Baldwin was filming his upcoming western film “Rust” at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Sante Fe.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, died and director, Joel Souza, 48, was injured after they were both struck when the gun discharged, the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said.

Immediately after the incident, an eyewitness told Hollywood gossip site Showbiz 411 that Baldwin started asking how he could have been given a “hot gun” – meaning a firearm loaded with real ammunition.

“In all my years, I’ve never been handed a hot gun,” the actor allegedly kept saying.

The actors depend on the prop people in these situations, it is their responsibility to make sure these things do not happen, not the actors

Alec shares some of the blame here.

# they were both struck when the gun discharged

Notice the wording. Like the gun just fired itself, with no assistance whatsoever from the idiot who actually pulled the trigger.

Yes, that was certainly not the language that was used for Kim Potter, the Minnesota cop who thought she was pointing a Taser at Daunte Wright last year. Her gun didn't "discharge," she "fatally shot" him. And it wasn't called an "accident," it was called "first degree manslaughter."

Obviously, neither intended to shoot the people they shot. But a police officer making that mistake while struggling with a fugitive who is resisting arrest is sufficiently culpable to be charged with a felony, while an actor making a similar mistake on a movie set seems likely not to be charged at all.

I’m wondering if nitwit was dinking around and trying to be silly. Prop gun or not, it shouldn’t have been pointed directly at anyone at close range, and second, with today’s remote camera systems, it isn’t necessary for a cinematographer or director to be sitting head on with a shooter if the shot required a gun to be fired toward the lens.

Lol! Or as Columbo would say, “There’s only one thing that bothers me, Mr. Prop Manager...”

He is very remorseful. He barely had time to use twitter to say just that....

He is thinking about his career first and foremost.

Probably because the scene called for the gun to be pointed at the camera.

Just odd that the plot of the movie being "shot" revolves around an accidental killing.

This should help "kill" at the box office.

Never waste a good crisis!

Hey Alec... first of all you’re a dumb-@ss. You don’t know it’s a ‘prop’ with 100% certainty. And if somebody hands you a gun you ‘assume’ that it’s loaded until you personally verify that it isn’t. And you always keep it pointed in a safe direction.

Clearly you were never a Boy Scout.

Why did he point a weapon at someone and pull the trigger?

If Barfwin is the producer, he’s ultimately responsible and liable for underlings’ safety failures.

It appears you’ve quickly gathered all the facts from the investigation, where the gun was pointed, where people were standing, etc etc. Amazing.
