Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed in an incident involving a prop gun on the set of “Rust,” an Alec Baldwin film that was shooting in New Mexico on Thursday.

A second person was injured, and was receiving emergency care at a hospital in Santa Fe.

Hutchins’ death was confirmed by the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600.

“We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called ‘Rust’ in New Mexico died from injuries sustained on the set,” said John Lindley, the president of the guild, and Rebecca Rhine, the executive director, in a statement. “The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event. This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild’s family.”

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office said it was investigating the incident, which was reported at 1:50 p.m. Mountain Time at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular filming location south of Santa Fe.

“The Santa Fe County sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot during filming of a scene on the set of the movie western ‘Rust’,” the office said in a statement. “According to investigators it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged. Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.”

How the hell does this happen ? A shame those two people paid the price.

Just curious , when filming their movies or tv shows, are there cameras that record the set , an over view camera perhaps ? ?

Hopefully the Cops confiscated the cameras. What went down is probably all on tape / film.

The person handling and firing the gun has the ultimate responsibility to check the weapon before firing. Alec probably thought he was to big a star to have to take the time to inspect the weapon. He’ll blame the prop guy, but it was in his hand. He pulled the trigger.

Hummmm..... This movie is a Western, one set photo being shown on these threads show the scumbag in full western period cloths. Yet the photo of him bent over apparently right after the shooting he looks to be wearing more modern civies?? Wondering if the crew were just setting up for lighting, not actual filming??

“Baldwin needs to be taught a lesson...”

What lesson do you teach him? I’m reasonably sure he understands the loss of life and the ramifications of what happened. But conjecturing that if another person of another political theology had done it they would be treated differently is looking as this as a political revenge viewpoint rather than a legal one.

It is currently under investigation and since the director was involved the project is probably on hold while the police do their work.

I sincerely doubt that Baldwin did it intentionally as he lacks the sand to do a whole lot of anything. So we call that an accident. Is he personally criminally liable? No, just stupid. Can he, as he is head of the production company be sued? Absolutely. But that’s how the law handles it. It is not criminal to be stupid. If that was the case most of our government would be in chains.

Really? I wonder what his opinion is of vaccines. I wonder what his opinion is of abortion.

Why he was pointing it at a cinematographer, and at what range, are two good questions.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Baldwin was assing around with a loaded prop gun....IDJIT.

The real question is whether the facts support homicide through negligence or s manslaughter charge.I would love to see Baldwin’s leftist Trump hating ass in jail, the idiots temper is legendary, he attacks traffic cops.

Baldwin is going to have to fork over millions in wrongful death law suit damages.

I cry no tear for Trump hater Alex Baldwin.

“I wonder what his opinion is of vaccines. I wonder what his opinion is of abortion.”

Frankly, I don’t care. There are probably a lot of people that share his opinion on those two situations. I can’t teach a blind thoughtless person to weigh the scales of justice because he’s had a lifetime to generate his opinions and whether he feels strong enough about them to project them to others. I can’t stop him from being stupid or even evil unless the law assists me. It is just as illegal to shoot him with a gun as it was if he had purposely accomplished the goal on the set. But then we’d both be obviously wrong.

He’ll get his time in court, if it makes it there, and will probably be paying some pain and suffering pittance to a number of people. But I’m not the judge and haven’t been selected for the jury there. And that may or may not be a problem for him, also, as who is selected. But with past decisions like this, I doubt there will bhe any criminal charges levied and you’ll never know how much he or his companies paid.

There is a previous court decision for this on the set of The Crow when Brandon Lee was killed by gunfire. Linda Lee Cadwell, Brandon’s mother, sued California-based Crowvision Inc. and its parent, Edward R. Pressman Film Corp., the producers; J.B. Jones Inc., which supplied the blanks and ammunition for the movie; director Alex Proyas and others. Carolco studios, where it was filmed, was not a defendant in the lawsuit.

Lee’s fiancee, Eliza Hutton, also was included in the settlement, according to a statement from Crowvision Inc. No criminal charges were filed in Lee’s death. Only the amount really is in question. And that will be probably suggested by the jury and passed by the judge unless it doesn’t make it that far and the amount will be a settlement between the parties.

Santa Fe County should be a real gem for a jury pool.

If a dummy round was fired, could it be that there was a dummy victim? Perhaps it was all a dummy story.
