My friend spent a few days with her daughter and three young granddaughters. The 11-year-old runs the home. I think that may change soon. I hope.
And I’m with you; that commercial pisses me off, too. First, we were glad to have food (poor country preacher). And Mom certainly wasn’t going to prepare anything special if we didn’t like something.
I recall that I hated “SOS”. It made me gag (literally) to look at it. The only accommodation I got was that I could eat the other food of the meal alone at the kitchen table. And that wasn’t for me. They just didn’t want puke on the dining room table.
Second, “smarting off” would’ve been a life-ending event. And that wasn’t limited to words. An eye-roll ... No. Nope.
There’s another one too where the mother is chasing the little girl through the house. Both make me mad.

These sort of commercials are nothing short of brainwashing the masses IMO.
OMG it pisses me off, too. However, as a child of 6, I did run the household one night, when my mother made pinto beans and I refused to eat them.
My dad said, “Fine, we’ll sit here until you take a bite.”
Only it was more heated than that lol. Well, I won. We sat there until 9? I went to bed the hungry winner.
Most of the time, I was just sent to bed lol.
But you are right, there was no catering to our whims.
I’m so annoyed by commercials these days. The Eggo waffle one, with the two moms and the little girl refusing to put her pants on is another one. Continually shoving demented behavior in our faces. Oh the other one is some new tv show about a female or all gal singing group getting back together. That one is annoying.
The dad is dumb, we don’t need men anyway, mom is the hero, kids are in charge, everyone is gay.

I’ve noticed a lot is same sex couples in commercials. They try to be coy about it, but it’s just more programming.
I have sat at the dinner table by myself for hours because I wouldn’t eat something as my parents went on about their business. Guess I was an opressed child. 😂

Kids know they are the boss. They know they can accuse a parent of anything and get what they think they want. They threaten parents by saying they will accuse them of abuse. In my day parents raised their own kids their way. Now the government tells them how to raise them.
I blame modern parents for it all. They let the government do it. Parent’s gave up the rights to their own kids years ago. These commercials only reaffirm to the kids that they rule.
It will start with Soros developing alien-like bags under his eyes big enough to store all his Jew gold. Just in case.

What is fascinating about your post is we ask our kids to tell us about their day every night at the dinner table and they stay silent or just say “It was ok.”
Just another point of view about that conundrum that is raising kids.
After I got older I realized that Dad’s job was very stressful and eating dinner was his release from his day. It ruined eating at the table for me though but I do understand. Eating alone now does it for me.
We weren’t allowed to talk during the 6:00 news or a football game either. LOL We spent a lot of time playing outside like kids should. 😁 I’m just saying the it shaped the way I do things now. I had to sit at the table with my daughter to make her eat. LOL She sat there until she did but we did talk like normal people do.
