It’s a sellers labor market. Not a bad thing at all.

Fake depression and tell your local shrink you are suicidal. After while they will give you disability. PTSD is good one too.

Exactly. You are spot on.

It isn’t about the job, the pay, the benefits...it is end of the Job Hustle and resetting of priorities. Which for millions is family and having a life. There was a stress at first due to Covid shutdowns and then they had 18 months to reassess priorities in their lives.

I was in IT customer service for most of my 40 years in the industry with several of the movers & shakers of the industry. I was astonished at what customers (particularly Managed Services companies who were hired by the customer to support their networking infrastructure) expected a vendor to do for them. It was basically "Do My Job for ME!", regardless of their support contracts functional coverage. It seemed to me that many of them were hired due to nepotism (knew or were related to someone who could get them a job) or that they simply lied on their resume and nobody vetted them. Seems they were given a list of vendor support phone numbers and simply told if they saw something they didn't understand, call the vendor (didn't matter which one, just keep calling)...

I was on an tech job interview team, and many applicants didn't want to be interviewed in person (wanted phone interview, not webex or zoom). We firmly believe the person on the end of the line was NOT the the one they were trying to place in the open position (a shill). Saw one person that did get hired for a contractor position get walked out the door before the end the first day because it was so obvious they were incompetent with none of the supposed tech skills or work ethic they claimed, so there was no other choice.

I should write a book....

I lived in China. If that happens it is extremely rare.

That is not to say it is a good government.

Back when you lived there it probably was - different now under Xi.

Alright, 6 things then. But I refuse to shave more than twice a week when the beard starts getting itchy.

In the corporate world the fastest way to a promotion is to get one from another. corporate upper management has devolved into "grasshopper people" and they go from company to company like locusts and they think that any one who stays at one company a long time as useless because they are not moving around. They want new talent. It does not matter if you are doing it to keep your kids live stable, make your wife happy, or you like what you do - they cannot understand it so they cannot respect it. Once you are employed over two or three years your corporate employer thinks they own you because you are still there. Add that belief to the common human fallacy of thinking that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence and you get new employees making way more than previous employees.

I'm 67 soon to be 68...I stopped working last November...so I had a good run....

but if I could go back to work I would....I feel I still could do the job and do it well....

but alas, I won't get vaxxed so its kind of a moot point.

"How does a single male with no minor children get on the commie dole? Unemployment is temporary and only if the person doesn’t quit or get fired for fault. I’m curious how does a single male of working age not eligible for retirement get access to the gravy train. It’s a solid plan to starve the beast while overloading it but places like Texas make it nearly impossible for a single male to get govt welfare."

Oh man, I hear you FRiend. You have my sympathy. I’m 65 and I have a pace maker. My department tried to get me to wear an N95. Five minutes after I put that damn thing on I ripped it off.

I told my boss “I can’t breathe with that thing on!’’

So they let me wear that blue one you see everyone is wearing.

Man, I’m so sick of this.

WOW! I’ll bet it’s not just happening at Home Depot, either. I see ‘Employment Bonuses’ on EVERY store window I see, begging for help. If an employer treated me that way, and put new hires higher on the Food Chain than me, I’d hit the bricks, too!

Is ANYTHING going right these days? WHO is running these businesses? And why aren’t they all closed by now? Yeesh! This kind of stuff just makes me INSAME after managing two multi-million dollar enterprises over the past 20 years before I retired.

We are in a world of hurt - for SO many reasons. :(

Post number 49, responding to mine has an interesting take on it.

If he's right, and I think he is, a sad, insane and stupid way for managers to think.

I think the world has changed a lot and FAST. It was changing before CovidBS-19 was programmed to strike us, but that certainly sped things up.

My sister is 4 years younger than me and she has always job hopped and ALWAYS found a better job than the last one and has always worked in University Jobs and Non-profits.

I was in the Army for 16 years, then helped a friend get his construction firm up and running for 5 years, worked part time for 8 years while my boys needed daily butt kicking and de-programming to get them through ‘Publik Skool’ (not my choice; I was the Evil Step Mom, I did what I could!) and then 10 at my last job, managing a Garden Center.

That doesn’t look too ‘grasshopper’ to me, but I will admit that my job choices were based upon what was needed at HOME at any given point in my life.

I was lucky to have very loyal employees for those last 10 years, and we were at a point in the economy where jobs were scarce and there was little competition for good employees.

Just HAPPY to be out of it ALL at this point; I’m getting too old for this shiite, LOL!
