UPDATE

Brooklyn has told Kyrie Irving he can’t be a part-time Net.

The All-Star point guard has refused to get a Covid vaccine, and the Nets announced Tuesday that he won’t be part of the team until he does. In essence, get vaxxed or get gone.

“Given the evolving nature of the situation and after thorough deliberation, we have decided Kyrie Irving will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant,” Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks said in a statement Tuesday morning.

“Kyrie has made a personal choice, and we respect his individual right to choose. Currently the choice restricts his ability to be a full-time member of the team, and we will not permit any member of our team to participate with part-time availability.”

Irving stands to forfeit $34 million in salary for this season.

It’s ironic, so many of these NBA players were “taking a knee” for so-called police injustice, and their orgs were backing them up…now, when they try and fight medical injustice, the orgs kick them to the curb.

Irving stands to lose $380,000 for every home game — totaling $17 million for the season.

SOURCE

With time running out for Kyrie Irving to obtain full eligibility for the regular season by getting vaccinated against the coronavirus, the Brooklyn Nets acknowledged that their all-star guard will be unavailable for more than half of games this season because of New York City’s vaccine mandate.

Nets Coach Steve Nash said Sunday that Irving’s status remains unresolved. “I think we recognize that he’s not playing home games,” said Nash, whose Nets are a leading title favorite. “We’re going to have to play without him this year. So it just depends on when, where and how much.”

While the NBA doesn’t have a vaccine mandate for players, certain cities, including New York and San Francisco, have enacted rules that require vaccination for members of home teams in those markets. Irving, if he remains unvaccinated, would be ineligible for Brooklyn’s 41 home games at Barclays Center and its two road games against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Per NBA rules, players must be two weeks removed from their final shot to be considered vaccinated. Brooklyn’s regular season home opener is slated for Oct. 24 against the Charlotte Hornets, meaning Irving would have needed to receive the shot by Sunday to be eligible.

Irving would be able to play in Brooklyn’s road games without receiving the vaccine as long as he abides by the NBA’s strict health protocols, which would require him to undergo regular testing, avoid eating with his teammates and steer clear of public socializing at bars and clubs, among other restrictions.

The NBA announced last month that unvaccinated players will be fined if they are unable to play in games because of vaccine mandates, which could cost Irving roughly $380,000 per game — or more than $16 million of his $34.9 million annual salary. National Basketball Players Association Executive Director Michele Roberts said last week that the union “did not agree” to the league’s pay reduction plan.

While Irving hasn’t conducted interviews with reporters since Brooklyn’s media day Sept. 27, he participated in Nets training camp, which was held in San Diego, and attended — but did not play in — the team’s preseason opener against the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.

Irving had been barred from practicing with his teammates at the Nets Training Center in Brooklyn until authorities ruled Friday that the practice facility was a “private office building” and thus exempt from the mandate.

NBA players strike? Doubtful. The league appears to have reached a 95% vaccination rate for players this offseason. Given many of them inject chemicals possibly as bad as the COVID vaccines, most didn’t think twice.

Good for him.

But sorry, I don’t watch Criminals and Thugs playing with a rubber ball.

Quit it all when they wouldn’t let Rush buy in to the other Rubber Ball Thug Fest.

He’s got a contract. They have to pay him anyway.

Plenty of people think we’re on the last leg of this damn virus. 93% of people over 65 are vaxxed. Probably 100+ million have caught it without knowing (some vaxxed some not). See all those packed stadiums these last weeks? None known to be much of a super-spread event. We are probably darn close to herd immunity.

Only time will tell but there is good reason to believe this is almost over.

The Nets are in a tough spot because they’re not imposing this mandate themselves. It’s the city of New York that’s requiring this idiocy.

Perhaps the normal course of action here is for the player to sue the team for breach of contract, and then the team files a third party claim against NYC.

If I was the owner of the Nets I’d at least look seriously at the possibility of breaking my lease on the arena for this season and playing the team’s home games somewhere else.

It is possible to get those cards. It is probably a crime to forge it though. Maybe a federal crime since it has an official government logo on it?
