I saw one once in South Georgia. North of Pogo’s swamp

It landed very close....like a couple hundred yards

We heard it coming in from our stand as we were about to get down it was dark

Saw the trajectory and heard and felt the thud.....

We went looking with lights expecting smoke and embers....never found it...

Even looked next day...

Must have been rather small...

Earlier this century, I found a meteorite on ranch property.

Later, sister with a Masters degree in education asked how I was able to get a meteor.

I replied that I was not good enough to catch a meteor, but that I could pick up a meteorite.

She just gave me a blank look.
