her insurance company plans to conduct a walk-through and determine whether burning space matter is covered under her policy.

If the insurance company is smart, they'll pay the claim and use this incident to generate a lot of favorable publicity for the company.

I have often wondered why homeowners’ insurance policies do NOT cover expenses from freak/weird events.

meteorite strike
sink hole
boulder rolling down mountain and crashing into house
etc.

These events are so rare that mathematically, the probability/cost ratio would be low enough that the premium to cover them should be very low compared to the expense to cover house fires etc.
