At least 279 infections have been linked to the strain observed in the outbreak — including 26 people who were hospitalized, according to the latest CDC case count released on Friday.
Last week, the CDC had only confirmed 127 infections linked to the unidentified food source, including 18 hospitalizations, in 25 states. Since then, the outbreak has expanded to a total of 29 states.
An outbreak of the strain Salmonella Oranienburg began Aug. 3 and grew “rapidly” in the following weeks, according to the CDC. No deaths have been linked to the outbreak.
Officials believe the number of sick people is likely much higher since some people recover from illness without medical care and aren’t tested for salmonella.
It can also take up to four weeks to determine if a sick person is indeed part of the outbreak, the agency says.
Still, investigators aren’t sure what’s causing the outbreak.
“The outbreak strain of Salmonella Oranienburg was found in a sample taken from a takeout condiment cup containing cilantro and lime. The sick person reported that the condiment container also contained onions, but none were left in the cup when it was tested.”
I am one of those individuals for which cilantro is a gag food. Tastes like bitter grass. Now, finely chopped cilantro in salsa I have no problem with (salsa needs cilantro).
Thankfully, my favorite taqueria keeps their chopped fresh onions and cilantro separate, so adding onions to my tacos there is not a problem. Yum!
I don’t know if it is Chipotle but agree with your suspicion that it is likely coming from some national chain/franchise restaurant that delivers to all those states from one hub. Bad batch of something sent across the land.
I see what you did there ; – )))

Me too. Once.
I’ve also called it Taco Hell.
Quick FalsiFauci, force a Salmanella vaccine mandate!
Darn it. Both Burke's Law (including the revival in color)s and Matlock off the air now. They had a women's makeup company, a woman's pie company, a restaurant, a modeling agency and others with a rival doing the murder to win the competitive edge. This could have been solved.
Salmonella. AKA the 2 bucket disease.
OK. . .thanks! I fear things are going to get worse with all the disease coming across the borders. We could be looking at the plagues of yesteryear. I hope God isn’t through with America . . .as a nation, we certainly have turned our backs on Him.
They can get sick from anything, but they always die of the CCP/Fauci biological warfare virus.
Imagine a couple of those illegals with active TB crowded into a camp with 15,000 others and then put on planes to who knows where in the US. Nightmare scenario..illegals with Ebola or Marburg Fever.
Chipotles problem is the way they prepare food, they poisoned and killed people. I don’t understand how they’re still in business.
Shut it down.
Shut it all down.
Hard.
Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia spared.
Maybe the SEC had something to do with it? ;->
I ate Mexican food in the best hotel in Acapulco, the Acapulco Princess. I knew the minute we got off the plane that horrible germs lived there. Got so violently ill, people in the rooms to the right and left and on floors above and below checked out.
Never ate Mexican food again. Serious barf alert.
However, I like cilantro as a salad herb. Nice flavor.
Did they also test positive for Covid?
There was a report of bad salami in several states about that time. Is this related?
