“We’ve been fighting all morning. He wouldn’t let me in the car before… he told me I needed to calm down.”
The officer let Petito sit in his squad car before going back to speak to Laundrie.
“She just gets worked up sometimes, I try to distance myself from her. I locked the car,” Laundrie told the officer.
“I said let’s just take a breather. She had her phone. I was trying to push her away to say let’s just take a step back,” he said, adding that Petito hit him with her phone.
Laundrie also told the officer Petito had grabbed the wheel of their van to make him pull over as police were following them.
According to a police report, neither Petito nor Laundrie called 911 to report the domestic incident.
Officers did not file any criminal charges and classified the incident as a “mental/emotional health break” instead of domestic assault.
Police said the couple agreed to spend the night separately instead of charges being filed.
According to the article she was hitting him.
Sounds like she should have ask police to let her get her stuff out of the van and take her to the nearest plane, train or automobile rental place.
She sounds like a kook with violent tendencies. He probably couldn’t take it anymore and killed her.
Frankly it sounds like she was a bit of a nut and he was trying to be hands off and distance himself. Seems like good choices.
I can imagine a scenario where she pushed and pushed and pushed and he just lost it and slugged her. Maybe she died on the spot and he thought “oh oh”.
Don’t date crazy people. Run away. Sounds like he ran away “after” when they both would have been better off if he had runaway “before”.
It might be a case of self-defense.
So sad..
When I see bad things happen to young woman I just immediately think, “what if that was one of my daughters” as they are of her age.
This girl had issues..getting violent, with slapping and grabbing steering wheel.
I bet the guy just finally blew a gasket.
I have no doubt the fiance is a murderer, but his parents aren’t much better. They’re shielding him, protecting him. I bet they’re thinking, “If they don’t find a body they can’t charge our son.” This entire case is very sad.
I see it going both ways. Either he snapped after months of her mental and physical abuse or she completely lost it and refused to get back in the car and he drove off and left her, and she offed herself.
I was in a similar relationship for 9 years with a psychotic hose beast. You learn to keep your thoughts to yourself and rarely speak to avoid confrontations.
I never laid a hand on her except when she came at me with a butcher knife and I grabbed her arm.
They supposedly stopped at a hotel, where he spent the night in the room and she stayed in the van.
Here’s my theory: She left the van before morning and started walking. She got lost in the Utah wilderness and died or was picked up by someone and hasn’t been heard from since. He’s not talking because he honestly doesn’t know what happened to her.
I’m still struggling with the fact that they took 5 months off just to drive around the country like they are retired.
I can see a month or so over the summer, but 5 months? Sheesh, what are we France? Are they getting unemployment checks?
I guess they all stopped at Disfunction Junction and had it out. She appears to have lost.
Her boyfriend returned alone in her van to the Florida home they shared on Sept. 1 and has so far refused to cooperate with authorities.
This is a really strange case.
Last night, the mother said she received a text from Yosemite , supposedly from her daughter saying there was no (phone) service in Yosemite. She knows it was sent by the “boyfriend” to throw her and law enforcement off his trail.
Lots of places to hide a body in Utah...
Don’t care what triggered it.
Left or right, women beaters all should be chained to a tree in the forest.
This story had all the hallmarks; it gets worse with every report.
The bodies of The “newlywed lesbian couple” who were murdered last month were found in the same area two days after the domestic incident between Petito and Laundrie. That’s quite a coincidence.
The video was odd... she said she kept apologizing to him because of her OCD and that she was in a bad mood. She also said she was trying to get her blog running and I think she mumbled he didn’t believe she could? I don’t know... I’ve told all three of my kids that if a relationship EVER turns physical.. LEAVE. Right then and now. I have a gal friend in a married relationship that sounds so much like her... defending him by “soft blaming” her own actions (for example, I’m not very lovey when I am tired and that annoys him). I’m hoping for the best for this young woman.
He’s putting on a good act. He’s the rational one, the victim, he’s a choir boy.
If he’s innocent why not cooperate with the police?
She could be more of a nut because he’s gas-lighting her.
