True, if 90% of the population dies, and no one has A/C or heating.

Nope. Not even close.

I have solar on my home. And it makes 70% of the power I consume. But that doesn't include my gas appliances nor my car (I don't have an EV). And I live in Alabama where I get plenty of sunshine.

Is it good for me? Yep. Is it something that can be done everywhere with good results. Nope.

“. . . one that would require massive changes in U.S. policy and billions of dollars in federal investment . . .”

As long as it is only federal investment and will not cost taxpayers or ratepayers anything - what’s not to like?

Made to order government garbage. But having heaved up this load, they can now refer to it in the future as if it’s a real thing.

That represents half the homes having no power at all, basically.

40%?

That would be the hours between 8:00am and 5:00pm?

That’s nice. So when the sun isn’t up, what’s providing the power.

When we get to 100% solar/wind, we’ll starve because there won’t be any ground left to plant in. It will all be covered by panels and turbines.

Sure, and the other 40% will be generated how?

By electric eels?

Without fossil fuels we'll all freeze to death. (Regardless of how hot it may be in the summer.)

I live in an area which is more often than not cloudy or rainy (I think we are the of the most overcast places in the USA). Probably a nice little fringe source here, but nowhere near 40% is possible.

Report: Solar could power 40% of US electricity by 2035....On a very sunny June 21st (longest day of the year), and 0% at night.

Fixed it.
