SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA, Okla. (KFOR) – A rural Oklahoma doctor said patients who are taking the horse de-wormer medication, ivermectin, to fight COVID-19 are causing emergency room and ambulance back ups.
“There’s a reason you have to have a doctor to get a prescription for this stuff, because it can be dangerous,” said Dr. Jason McElyea.
Dr. McElyea said patients are packing his eastern and southeastern Oklahoma hospitals after taking ivermectin doses meant for a full-sized horse, because they believed false claims the horse de-wormer could fight COVID-19.
“The ERs are so backed up that gunshot victims were having hard times getting to facilities where they can get definitive care and be treated,” he said.

Well sure. The number of gunshot victims there must make Chicago look like a Sunday School Picnic.
Sure.
It’s weird to me the same groups of people who say covid doesn’t exist are the same ones taking these “cures Iverwhatever HCQ etc
I feel like some conservatives have painted themselves into a corner, and these “cures” and everything else is just part of an overall denial of the whole thing. It’s like they want it to be a conspiracy even when it’s not necessary
Well if you read it on the Internet it must be true. /s/
That was my thought. Wouldn’t have to overdose if they gave us the opportunity to have the right dosage!!!
The case was reported by 4chan and because it has a dubious reputation for the truth, I found a more scientific explanation of what ivermectin can do that the medical community is making such grave warning about its use:
“No, Ivermectin Is Not Making People Poop Out “Rope Worms”. The Truth Is Much Worse”
maybe they’re using the pour on form?
from Ann Barnhardt:
“What about the “pour-on” form?
NO. The pour-on form is designed as a fly repellant to be poured onto and stick for many weeks to the haircoat of livestock. The liquid medium of the pour-on is NOT INGESTIBLE. If you buy and drink the pour-on after reading this, you are stupid. ONLY THE 1% INJECTABLE solution or the horse paste may be ingested. Period.”
Probably because they are wormy.
Actually, it not the cheap labor they like. It’s the ignorance of American Freedoms and Rights coupled with the fear of deportation and a mail-in ballot. The Guvmint loves it’s power.
> How about making it available in human-sized doses OTC to avoid the overdosing?
That’s only for third world foreigners and not US citizens.
Exactly. Let doctors prescribe it, and you won't have people getting it from overseas sources or Tractor Supply.
what a bunch of bull.
“This story is brought to you by your friends a big pharma”
People need to understand the 1.87%. Just to explain the math you used a little more. The 6.08 gram tube (or 6,080 mg) of the horse medicine contains only 113 mg of ivermectin (1.87% times 6,080 mg).
Consequently, if you need 30 mg of ivermectin you need to take 1,604 mg (30 mg /.0187) of horse paste or 1.6 grams. You can use the computer to convert to ounces.
It seems like there should be more problems with people taking too little of the horse paste, not enough. Of course the establishment is not worried about people not taking enough.
Thanks, I was going to post the meta-analysis but you saved me the trouble. Very clear the reporter who wrote this BS article didn’t think it was necessary to read any clinical trial data.
and a feed bag. eats out of one, dumps into the other.
It has a wide safety profile even at higher levels. I was talking to my vet years ago (he was confirming my math to make my own heartworm preventative for my dogs with 1% ivermectin). He said most recipes he sees online are about 10 times too high, but it doesn’t worry him because it is very safe (except for certain breeds, or dogs prone to seizures)
That said, it is processed through the liver - should probably work with a doctor on dosing if you have cirrhosis, etc.
Does a human being have an intestinal track that tolerates 113,750 mcg of horse paste ivermectin? The apple flavor might be tasty but, the "Rope Worms" will be your intestinal lining.
It reminds me of the time I failed to heed the warning label of my drain cleaner. It said, "Do Not use in garbage disposers." I turned on the hot water to flush out my drain after letting it set for 3 hours. My garbage disposer was leaking out the bottom and totally destroyed. $130 later.
No one said “horse dewormer” works for COVID.
Ivermectin is FDA approved for humans and can be prescribed in safe doses.
A little harsh. There are plenty of adults in Oklahoma that are functionally illiterate, especially in rural areas, because they had to leave school and work to help feed their families. Actually, there are plenty of high school graduates all over the country who were given diplomas without being able to read with any decent comprehension. Older adults who graduated got a better basic education than a lot of kids today.
