” I can understand if someone can no longer afford it or they need to relocate. But just because the numbers on paper showed you were upside down, never made sense to me.”

We bought at about mid-peak. Saw our house “value” double. Then we saw it go to half of what we bought it for. Then when we sold it was above what we bought it for by about $50,000. It was a crazy time, but we never took the values seriously until we were moving.

But the cabin! Yikes! There is a fire just one road away form where our cabin was. I feel sorry for those home owners there. If their cabins don’t burn, they won’t be sellable. Surrounded by burnt forest. With insurance through the roof. So sad, it was a beautiful area with lots of Giant Sequoias. Which, ironically, only reproduce when their seed pods are opened by the heat of a fire. (One of our neighbors put a seek pod on his wood stove. Thought he was being attacked in the middle of the night, LOL)

I assume as part of your income tax, when realized gains would be taxed, they would also tax unrealized gains.

I’m not sure how it would work as far as gain/loss.

Yes, it would be a nightmare. I don’t see how they could or would implement it. There would be a lot of pushback. But as crazy as things have gotten, who knows what they will do. I never thought they would be chasing you down & sticking a needle in your arm, or allowing cities to burn, but here we are.

Maybe they can take the property tax valuation that’s already there?

I suppose they could, but as you say, property tax valuation does not reflect market valuation, especially in CA. Property tax would actually be a benefit for the taxpayer, if they would use it.

Who knows - it's all speculation at this point.

Not military, but that is the question my son if facing as an employee of a company that is a gov’t contractor. His director, immediately upon learning of the EO, put out the notice they all have one month to vax or find a new job. Meanwhile, the details of the EO haven't been implemented and, somewhat ironically, they are set to go to a gov’t facility next week that still only requires vax or proof of negative test. Clearly the director is a vigilante for “the other side.”

Anyway ...

I keep hoping that the waiting game will pay off for him. The more I hear, the more horrible the vax sounds. If he can kick the can far enough down the road, I am hoping (yeah, right) that there will be enough pushback and upheaval and riots because vax passports are inherently racist that this will all sort of slither away (perhaps after they declare their policy worked and the pandemic is no more). So far, my son is holding out, but it is wearing him down with worry. But, I agree, he is more than welcome here. Families have to stick together.

My niece gave up and got it because she just didn't want the harassment. That seems to be what they are going for.

I am so disgusted.

Are you against dishonorable discharges for vaccine refusal?
Austin would not answer, deferred to somebody else.

The Bee does it, again....

Wife Claims $3.5 Trillion Spending Spree At Target Actually Cost $0
The Babylon Bee ^ | September 27, 2021 | The Babylon Bee

SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT—Local wife and mother Josefina Quedando made a bold claim Monday: that her $3.5 trillion shopping spree at Target would actually cost the family just $0.

Quedando had originally told her husband she would be spending $3.5 trillion at Target on prairie dresses, shoes, Magnolia decor, "a few things for the kids," groceries, knick-knacks, throw pillows, and candles, among other "small" purchases. When this proposal didn't poll well among her husband base, she quickly released a statement that the $3.5 trillion in spending would "actually cost $0 when you think about it."

According to Quedando, when you look at how many coupons she used, the deals she got, and the fact that she put everything on her Target credit card, the total cost of her massive purchase was actually "a wash."

"Honey, think about it this way," she said as she got home with 50,000,000 truckloads of stuff from Target. "If we didn't buy this stuff, we wouldn't have saved all that money by scanning every item in the Target app. Then we would have saved $0. This purchase actually ends up being an even trade off."

At publishing time, Quedando had claimed they'd actually made money on the purchase, since American dollars are depreciating so rapidly that all the home decor she bought would actually retain value better, and her husband had to admit she had a point.

Just got back from running errands/grocery shopping at my favorite store, Slaveway.

Went to Penney’s, hubby needed some New Balance sneakers, only had 5 pairs, and none in his size, really?!!!

From what they didn’t have I would say they are having trouble getting in merchandise.

Hubby will order on line.

Looking forward to reading your posts on the hearings.

only had 5 pairs, and none in his size,

You should have just bought them & given them to him. And then, be indignant if he didn't wear them because they didn't fit. But then again, you're probably not like my wife.

This might have already been posted but....

Where the heck do these people learn economics??? Obviously they don’t understand business!

https://freebeacon.com/biden-administration/psaki-unfair-and-absurd-to-say-companies-would-raise-prices-in-response-to-tax-increases/

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Monday defended House Democrats’ tax plan in the face of criticism that the legislation would see taxes and consumer prices rise for many Americans. Psaki insisted President Joe Biden is committed to keeping taxes the same for anyone making less than $400,000 a year, and she called it “absurd” that companies would raise consumer prices in response to higher taxes.

“There are some … who argue that, in the past, companies have passed on these costs to consumers,” Psaki said. “We feel that that’s unfair and absurd, and the American people would not stand for that.”

A number of economic studies have found that consumers bear approximately 31 percent of the cost of corporate tax increases through higher prices on consumer products
