A shrink friend once told me that people who end up with someone who closely resembles them are narcissists who are secretly in love with themselves, hence the attraction to someone who looks like them. Who knows if there’s any truth to that?

IMO and from experience, most secular shrinks are friggin weirdos…narcissists themselves who love thinking they can figure anyone out..

Most couples do wind up looking like each other. There is good reason having nothing to do with narrciisim.

I can believe that. My husband and I look nothing alike, and personality-wise, we are complete opposites in every way. And the more people I’ve told that, the more I hear the same claim from other long-term couples, as well!

Even though we may put up a united front, at home in the nitty-gritty of life, we have different tastes, talents, internal clocks, ways of doing things and looking at problem-solving... it’s not along the lines of stereotypical sex attributes, either - I excel at things which he does not, such as spatial relationships - map reading, tool use, etc. - for example, while his verbal communication skills are much, much better than mine. It can be frustrating as heck at times, but also a positive challenge to personal growth and acceptance, in the end. I can’t imagine how dull it would be to live with an opposite sex but otherwise carbon-copy of myself.
