A Belgian woman was barred from visiting a chimp at Antwerp Zoo after keepers determined that the two were spending far too much time together. The woman claimed she had a “affair” with the animal.
The bizarre ‘love story’ made the headlines across Belgian media on Friday, after Antwerp Zoo slapped a restraining order of sorts on Adie Timmermans, a long-standing visitor.
Over the past four years, Timmermans paid weekly visits to the zoo, seeking contact with one particular animal – a 38-year-old chimpanzee called Chita. The two then interacted through the enclosure’s glass, waving and blowing kisses at each other. The woman was devastated by the ban, telling local media in a tearful interview that both she and the animal would suffer from the forced break-up.
“I love that animal and he loves me. I haven’t got anything else. Why do they want to take that away?” she said.
We’re having an affair, I’ll just say.

Seriously, once per week visit across glass is no big deal, and a lot of people love their pets as if they were family members.

Why did they frame this story in such an ugly way? I was expecting a sexual encounter, not blowing kisses through a glass window. If she was doing something that could be interpreted as obscene, they should have warned her. Maybe they did.

Our wiener dog goes crazy every time my mother who is in her 80s comes to visit. No one else gives her such a welcome and it has been very good for my mom who has been struggling for months with nasty side effects from the Pfizer shot. She used to say that she was in so much pain that she just wanted to die. But when cuddling the dog she seemed to forget that. I honestly think that she would have died already if not for the love from our little geriatric dachshund.
She shouldnt have used the word “affair”...I care about my animals, but I don’t characterize it as an affair. She may give other indications that she is a bit unhinged. But it would appear to be normal to regard the life of an animal. RinTinTin, Lassie, Mr. Ed, Old Yeller, Black Beauty, Flipper, Willy, Silver and Scout, Arnold, and others would concur.
Well, at least she’ll know where he is every night.

Reminds me of a movie on TCM not long ago.
AFRICA SCREAMS with Abbot and Costello in which an ape gets a a crush on Costello.
After the movie was over, host Ben Mankiewicz says they had trouble with the censors who refused to allow a love affair between a man and a female ape.
So the script writers said the ape would be a male. That was OK. (Really, you can’t tell the difference in the movie).
Some wag then made a comment about how a female ape was no longer allowed “but a gay ape was OK!”
Mankiewicz then proceeded to call the commenter a “RACIST” for his comment.
Hey, it was an APE! How could it be racist? It appears to me that the woke crowd is so used to calling everything “racist” that it just rolls off their lips, even when the comment is about a gay ape.
