Our Niece married a young fellow whom she met in College. They were both graduates. She went on to become a Nurse Practitioner. He was determined to be an Airborne Ranger. I advised him against that pursuit. He spoke with my boy who was a commissioned Officer with combat experience. Nothing was going to talk him out of it.
He graduated and then enlisted anyhow. Special Forces all the way. He ended up in Afghanistan.
After a while as a true Soldier, he was wounded. Gut shot. He should be dead. Thank God he is healed, following numerous surgeries and months of Rehab.
He is OK now, but I still questioned his motives despite my Son’s as well as my own advice. Turns out that his family has a tradition of Army Service, as does my own.
We are fortunate that he survived, and we are grateful to God.
