We lost Pournelle a few years ago. He was a great one, a polymath, a high-level Cold Warrior (nuclear war game theory and such, originated the concept of Rods from God) a paleocon and a wonderful human being.

I was a big fan of Pournelle when he wrote articles for computer magazines in the 80s. On one of my trips to COMDEX, I actually met him looking over the same vendor booth. A chance encounter in a sea of people.
