On July 17, 1996, TWA Flight 800, a Paris-bound 747 out of JFK, blew up off the coast of Long Island. It seemed somehow fitting that James Kallstrom, the public face of the FBI investigation into the plane's destruction, would die two weeks before the 25th anniversary. As a patriot, a Vietnam vet, and an outspoken critic of all things Clinton, Kallstrom once held promise as the insider most likely to come clean. He never did.
As to my own involvement with this story, until the evening of February 23, 2000, I was as naïve as a CNN anchor. Before that evening, I would have dismissed out of hand anyone who dared suggest that elements of the FBI and CIA would conspire with the White House and the New York Times to cover-up the cause of so public a disaster.
February 23, 2000 was the night my education began.
Earlier that evening I had listened with some interest at a Kansas City country club as investigative reporter James Sanders spoke about his inquiry into the 747's fate. At a dinner afterwards, I found myself sitting next to James's wife, Elizabeth. A sweet and soft-spoken woman of Philippine descent, she filled me in on the personal details. At the time of the disaster, she was a trainer for TWA. She had been a flight attendant for some years before that.
Of the 230 people killed on that ill-fated flight, 53 were TWA employees, many of them Elizabeth's friends. At one of the numerous memorial services, Elizabeth introduced James to Terry Stacey, a 747 manager and pilot who was working on the investigation.

Perhaps the clip I referenced in my #54
The only leaks you hear about are the ones the media WANT you to hear about.
Ok, good info! Thank you. I just thought the Fauci connection was interesting.
Also for the record … I’m inclined to assume that the official government findings about any incident like this has zero credibility, and should be treated as anything ranging from wild speculation (at best) to deceptive propaganda (at worst).
For what it’s worth, the most plausible “shoot-down” scenario I had scene laid out in a speculative analysis of the incident DID involve an accident, but not and accidental MISSILE LAUNCH. This scenario — which I’m reciting from memory because it was posted here many years ago — included the following chain of events:
1. TWA Flight 800 departs from JFK and climbs as it head east toward Europe.
2. U.S. Navy is conducting “live-fire” exercises somewhere south of Long Island that night. This exercise may have involved other NATO vessels, which would add a lot of sensitivity to any incident that may have occurred with them.
3. The naval exercises that night involved the use of one or more drone missiles that were used as targets for the surface-to-air missiles being tested. One ship served as the launch platform for the drone(s), while a second ship miles away — perhaps even over the horizon — launched the SAM(s).
4. Flight 800 was supposed to be flying at an altitude of X thousand feet at that point in its eastbound flight. It was actually 5,000+ feet lower that night because it had to interrupt its climb to make way for a northbound flight into Providence, Rhode Island that was running behind schedule.
5. A drone is launched from one ship and reaches an altitude of 20,000+ feet. The SAM is launched from the other ship, climbs to 20,000+ feet, and mistakenly targets Flight 800 instead of the drone.
I’m sure there are plenty of holes in this theory. I’m sure I left some important details out, too. But I will say that I find this no less plausible than the cockamamie scenario fabricated by the U.S. government back then.
Yeah, I remember many did.
LOL! I think the Fauci connection is a bit of a stretch and exists only in the mind of the author of that particular website.
Maybe it was Colonel Mustard in the drawing room with a candle stick?
If I remember correctly, I think someone actually gave 60 Minutes a piece of the plane to be tested for missile residue. Then of course 60 Minutes immediately turned the evidence over to the FBI and reported the person who obtained it.
....and the whole ship was threatened with jail, loss of pension and worse if they talked. It was also reported that they all were forced to sign non-disclosure of gov secrets docs before leaving the ship. Don’t remember any leak of such docs, but the threats sounded real at the time.
Who was on board that needed to be silenced? I think I remember a dozen high schoolers in a french class died... and Clinton faced reelection in months...

Red eye?! Jeez. Showing my age.
The thing that confuses me — while I agree of the likelihood of a US Navy missile strike — where are the sailors? A typical destroyer or cruiser has a compliment of about 200 sailers and officers. They are also generally part of a wider fleet of vessels including a carrier. Having been a weapons officer myself, it seems hard to believe that many in FCS or EWS didn’t know what had happened. Surprising none have come forward.
I can think of one off-hand. You would have to believe that the U.S. Navy is so God-awful stupid that it would conduct live fire exercises by shooting into one of the most densely travelled air corridors in the world. They really aren't that dumb.
Especially after the U.S. admitted its error on its own.
Billy had to make all of us feel safe to win re election.
Can we talk about the Oklahoma courthouse bombing now?
You may be correct
Is that comment from an educated, thoughtful person?
I have several friends and acquaintances in the NTSB and FAA. Incompetence does not begin to account for the downing of TW800. The proof of the missile shoot-down was systematically ignored.
And for what it's worth, I ought to know.
More to the point, how many 747s were grounded until they could fix the center fuel tank problem?
As aircraft age, the stress and wear of operation can reveal design or operational defects that can, if not remedied, lead to catastrophic failure. In both the aforementioned incidents, maintenance or training corrections needed to be implemented in order to avoid subsequent catastrophic failures...just as it was with TWA 800.
Which is precisely why all 747s were grounded until the center fuel tank problem could be fixed, right?
I believe you are incorrect about this.

Jack Cashill has been a thorn in Clinton’s side for 25 years.
Somehow, HRC has missed this one..
