On July 17, 1996, TWA Flight 800, a Paris-bound 747 out of JFK, blew up off the coast of Long Island. It seemed somehow fitting that James Kallstrom, the public face of the FBI investigation into the plane's destruction, would die two weeks before the 25th anniversary. As a patriot, a Vietnam vet, and an outspoken critic of all things Clinton, Kallstrom once held promise as the insider most likely to come clean. He never did.
As to my own involvement with this story, until the evening of February 23, 2000, I was as naïve as a CNN anchor. Before that evening, I would have dismissed out of hand anyone who dared suggest that elements of the FBI and CIA would conspire with the White House and the New York Times to cover-up the cause of so public a disaster.
February 23, 2000 was the night my education began.
Earlier that evening I had listened with some interest at a Kansas City country club as investigative reporter James Sanders spoke about his inquiry into the 747's fate. At a dinner afterwards, I found myself sitting next to James's wife, Elizabeth. A sweet and soft-spoken woman of Philippine descent, she filled me in on the personal details. At the time of the disaster, she was a trainer for TWA. She had been a flight attendant for some years before that.
Of the 230 people killed on that ill-fated flight, 53 were TWA employees, many of them Elizabeth's friends. At one of the numerous memorial services, Elizabeth introduced James to Terry Stacey, a 747 manager and pilot who was working on the investigation.

With the altitude being what it was, there’s a limited number
of possible missiles that could have achieved this take down.
You make a valid point, but what is your alternative theory
if not an accident by the NAVY?
I’m not necessarily sold on the NAVY angle, but I’m not ruling
it out either.
We don’t know if there was a smaller type vessel that was maned
by a small team either.
Most of the people on this forum are strident supporters of
the U. S. Military. That would include the NAVY.
Mistakes can happen. I would prefer the truth of it come out,
rather than a report made up of pure fantasy, that no one
believed.
Lies and subterfuge, destroy faith in our nation’s higher
institutions. The FBI, CIA, the Media, and government
officials have no one to blame but themselves for a lack
of faith in their respective offices and agencies.
The NTSB was ordered to stand down. The FBI and CIA took
over. That right there made it clear this was a cover-up.
The NTSB always handled domestic flight investigations on
land or in the waters off our shores. What made this crash
investigation different than any other investigation?
There are some huge differences between the World Trade Center collapse and the 12-story condo building collapse. For one thing, the rubble pile for the WTC towers may have been small but the debris field was actually enormous. That's because most of the debris was scattered over a large area as pulverized concrete and interior walls.
Can you find any photos of the Florida condo collapse that remotely resemble this destruction? That's not smoke there. That's building debris.

Also, note that one of the unique characteristics of the WTC towers was its innovative design with no interior columns. That probably played a huge role in their ultimate demise, unfortunately. They were two massive buildings that were comprised mainly of EMPTY SPACE.
What do you picture happened? Two guys rough housing around in weapons con, one guy mistakenly typing in coordinates, getting radar lock, while the other flips the safety and launches? That seems like a very unlikely scenario. Occam’s Razor.
You think hundreds of sailors were killed to cover this up? There are over 300 sailors aboard Ticonderoga class cruisers and Arleigh Burke class destroyers. That's a lot of seamen to get rid of.
And no one noticed a missing fully armed and operational SM-2 missile?
Or that no one on the ship put two and two together that they launched a supposed training missile at the exact time people susceptible to believing conspiracy theories claimed the navy shot down an airliner?
I'm not sure how Occam's Razor would apply here. Everything about this incident stank to high heaven from the night it occurred.
LOL, you’ve digested the official explanations pretty well. But you still aren’t handling truth.
That’s a lot of seamen to get rid of.
Well, it is Bill Clinton we’re talking about here.
I should ask if you served. How much do you know about how the navy operates? The things people have been suggesting on this thread and similar ones seem to be from people who have no experience with what they are speculating about. I'm not trying to be insulting. It just seems that the people who are most certain about what happened are the people who don't know what they are talking about.
Anyone here know of someone who has actually launched a missile from a Ticonderoga cruiser or Arleigh Burke destroyer? Those are the guys you need to talk to.
Nitpicky, but you must mean a P-3. The P-8 (Poseidon) wasn't in service at the time.
It’s ironic.
When this happened, I could not stop thinking about it and the explanation that was given.
Thinking back, it was the first crack in the solid respect and admiration that I had for our Intelligence Community, FBI, being the biggest disappointment. After the last four years, I feel there is no way to save our American so-called Intelligence Agencies. They are frightfully scary and powerful.
Defund and disband the current FBI. We need GOOD people to do that job.
When this first happened Alamo-girl lead a freeper research project that dug into this pretty deeply. It was included in the “downside legacy at two degrees of William J Clinton”
Hitting alamo-girls link on the front page of freerepublic brings you to a site offering things for sale on Bonanza. I do not know if Alamo-girl has passed away or what happened to the downside legacy.
If Jim has a copy of it squirreled away we need to get it reposted.
In that study we also dug into the crash (shootdown) of an airliner in (Czechoslovakia I think) that had a bunch of friends and enemies of Bill on board. That crash (shootdown) also had suspicious circumstances connected to it. (Such as bullet holes in some of the ‘victims’ heads when their bodies had no other injuries)
Two men who were supposed to be on that prior flight but cancelled were on TWA800. (Unfortunately I don’t remember their names.)
Believe it or not, my alternative theory is the official theory. And believe me, it took me a while to arrive at that. But I do believe it is the most plausible explanation.
My own father at first didn't believe it. He was a union aircraft mechanic, turned supervisor, turned maintenance manager at JFK through his career. His specialty was the 747, 767 and A300. But our discussions were when it was the "static electricity" theory which ignited the tank. I never spoke to him after learning about the mixed voltages in the cable and the faulty level indicator. Too late to talk to him now.
Still, I definitely buy the overheated fuel from two hours of running the AC unit (located under the tank) and the spark from the chaffing wires over any US Navy shootdown and cover up theory. Especially considering that other Boeing planes have exploded similarly prior to and after flight 800.
Best post I’ve read all week!
And tell me out of hundreds of sailors who would have had to witness events if a missile from their ship, or one nearby, was launched in that area at around that same time would remain silent? Remember, this was 1986, and the military folks back then did not, for the most part, care for Clinton.
Before the Alaska Air crash, how many jakescrew failures caused a catastrophic accident? None and none since.
Before American Airlines FL 587, how many composite rudders failed causing catastrophic aircraft loss? None and none since
If you’re prone to unsupported conspiracy theories - which you may be - I guess the only conclusion one can draw is that both of those crashes MUST have been caused by sabotage, I guess.
I thought 29 years was the rule.
My company looked at the radar data from FAA, I managed & did the analysis. There was no missile imaged, the data was good enough to show white caps on ocean waves. Any missle even a stinger would have shown up. It wasn’t there in that data. Maybe there’s other data that shows something different, but not this data.
Anyway my rule-of-thumb: Never subsitutte convoluted conspiracy when simple incompetence satisifies the known facts. If other facts come to light that’s something different.
