At the end of January, reports that yet another COVID-19 vaccine had succeeded in its clinical trials—this one offering about 70 percent protection—were front-page news in the United States, and occasioned push alerts on millions of phones. But when the Maryland-based biotech firm Novavax announced its latest stunning trial results last week, and an efficacy rate of more than 90 percent even against coronavirus variants, the response from the same media outlets was muted in comparison.
The difference, of course, was the timing: With three vaccines already authorized for emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the nation is “awash in other shots” already, as the The New York Times put it.
Practically speaking, this is true. If the FDA sees no urgency, the Novavax vaccine might not be available in the U.S. for months, and in the meantime the national supply of other doses exceeds demand. But the asymmetry in coverage also hints at how the hype around the early-bird vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna has distorted perception. Their rapid arrival has been described in this magazine as “the triumph of mRNA”—a brand-new vaccine technology whose “potential stretches far beyond this pandemic.” Other outlets gushed about “a turning point in the long history of vaccines,” one that “changed biotech forever.”
It was easy to assume, based on all this reporting, that mRNA vaccines had already proved to be the most effective ones you could get—that they were better, sleeker, even cooler than any other vaccines could ever be.
But the fascination with the newest, shiniest options obscured some basic facts. These two particular mRNA vaccines may have been the first to get results from Phase 3 clinical trials, but that’s because of superior trial management, not secret vaccine sauce.

Compared to how long it has taken the Novavax vaccine to be created, the mRNA Vaccines have come at Warp Speed—Thanks to President Trump. That is the beauty of mRNA technology.
The CIMAvax-EGF vaccine developed by Cuba to fight lung cancer will have a new life in the form of a mRNA vaccine. Even before the pandemic began, Memorial Sloan Kettering researchers had already been working to use mRNA vaccine technology to treat cancer. A potential treatment for pancreatic cancer is now in clinical trials. I guess some day people will be telling cancer patients to stay away from the mRNA cancer vaccine because they might get a little dizzy.
China (PRC) has developed an inactivated virus vaccine by the name of Coronavax and India has developed one called Covaxin.

Is this Sinovac under a different name? If so, it is not known to work very well. The Seychelles in Africa for instance, is one of the most highly vaccinated places in the world ( mostly with Sinovac ). Yet, they’re experiencing a huge surge of Covid cases, even from those already vaccinated.

I agree with your observation. I think that Covid was a manufactured panic to get rid of Trump. Not that I believe Covid was put out on purpose, practically anything could have been used with enough media backing. I think that like a small fire can get out of control, that the panic got out of control because so many people just love a good crisis. Once Trump was gone the crisis had become self-sustaining. The people who manufactured it...not a specific group but more a crowd-funding type of operation, and through positive feedback, got caught up in their own hype and now may believe it really is a crisis. As for why the normal treatment regimen is, in some cases outlawed, that may be a relic of the anything-orange-man-says-bad mania. Also, suddenly there was a Niagara Falls of money available for novel treatments. That tends to influence people and I’m sure those companies spent accordingly on influence to keep the money flowing. Again, not an organized conspiracy, just the way things happen when there’s space and time distorting weight of money to be had.
Trust is the coin of the realm. And Deep State, Big Pharma, Big Med, Big Tech et al are flat busted.

Well...we will see...but why they decided to mess with DNA and rna is a mystery...my guess is that everyone was panicking for something(anything)...plus the government and companies agreed on certain conditions(like malpractice immunity, and massive manufacturing) to speed production and use of vaccine....novavax technology more like old idea of vaccines...still....we don’t know how to predict the real world effects...
Seems to me that trying to halt the spread or eliminate the virus is becoming akin to stopping the common cold. Nothing works for long and does not make you immune.

There are legitimate reasons not to take any experimental vaccine.
Especially when there’s a possibility the supposed cure is much more dangerous than the disease itself.
Very much since no one knows the 2nd or 3rd order effects and won’t know for 2-3 years.
What could possibly go wrong??
