The shocking assassination of Haiti’s president means U.S. must get off the sidelines and act | Editorial

Moïse’s death and the lack of a functioning government also serves as a clear cut signal that the U.S. must play a greater role in Haiti’s future, starting right now.

It’s clear that Haiti will need both immediate and longer-term guidance to move forward in a democratic way. This is a country that started out with weak institutions, and they’re now virtually non-existent. The U.S., as Haiti’s biggest donor, has no choice but to take the lead — with international partners and, importantly, Haiti’s own civil society — to stabilize Haiti.

An international coalition could do immense good very quickly by picking five critical things to focus on so that basic life in Haiti can continue: good roads, reliable electricity, clean water, policing that works and COVID vaccines...

U.S. must also drop the idea of elections in two months. The Biden administration had pinned its hopes on “free and fair” elections, refusing to take into consideration the amount of turmoil in Haiti was going to make that very hard time to pull off.

Transition governments have worked in the past. That’s the best path forward now. Elections must be reset for a date that allows Haiti time to get its footing. Rushing into an election now will only result in more chaos — and an electorate that doesn’t believe in the results.

“Tonton Macoute”

They came to Miami back in the 70s: tortured and robbed their own expat population. Chain migration assures a rebounding crazy population here.

African Marxism is rife with anti-colonial sentiment - blaming all their woes on it. Puzzling the left would clamor for it in Haiti.

btw - that’s another reason they want more immigration - cheaper and more effective than get them under one’s governmental control. If you try to do it in-country, you run the risk of locals stealing it away. Keeps the corruption more in-house.

This editorial board is so rock-stupid they forgot to check their white racist "liberal" maternalism at the door.

The Woke mob will have to re-educate them....

Our “interventions “ in Haiti go back at least 100 years. They all fall apart.
“And when your goal is nearest, your hope for others sought, watch sloth and heathen folly bring all your works to naught “ Kipling knew a thing or two.

I have read some time ago that the president refused the astra zeneca vaccine as been unsafe ( i guess the others were to expensive) because they said that they are the only country without a covid vaccination program. Now that he is dead one of the five thing they list in the article as been urgent is covid vaccination. Strange!?

Yes, it is strange. And some additional things I was trying to research:

We have the Assassination of the Haitian President and an investigative reporter, who it is rumored spoke with the President shortly before being gunned down. I have been trying to see if there was any info to tie the two murders together.

I wonder what the reporter was investigating that led to his call on the President, (if he did in fact call).

Not getting much as of yet, and the reporter may have been a mob hit, but I’m posting some info that may be relevant down the road:

Peter R. de Vries, one of the Netherlands’ best-known crime reporters, is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot in Amsterdam on Tuesday evening

De Vries was walking to his car following a regular TV appearance when a masked gunman walked up and shot him six times, including once in the head

Suspected gangland hit comes amid trial of suspected Mafia boss Ridouan Taghi

De Vries was heavily involved in the case and had previously said that Taghi had him on a ‘hit list’, a claim which the alleged gangster denied

Look back: Peter R. de Vries critical of corona apps
POSTED ON APRIL 8, 8:34 P.M.

Peter R. de Vries has an opinion on many things, including corona apps. Although he sees the positive side of it, he mainly questions the apps. “Privacy is something very sensitive. We should not focus on the positive effects and see what it means for the future.”

In my profession, phones are also used for detection. In fact, an innocent app is already widely used as a pedometer in the resolution of murder cases. And of course it wasn’t developed for that.”

Feb 17, 2018 - President Jovenel Moise said other charities should be investigated for covering up sex abuse in the wake of the earthquake that ravaged his country in 2010. “The Oxfam case is the visible part ...Oxfam sex scandal is ‘tip of the iceberg’, Haitian ...

So I wonder if the reporter was also investigating something to do with vaccines?

Don’t know, but I remember reading about it.

Some Army folks I know were in Haiti in ‘94ish when US troops went down there for whatever reason. Said the place was gross. They told me that the Dominicans kept a close eye on them and were very strict about them coming and going.

Haiti is a worthless collective of black incompetence. Haiti can not and must not become a sinkhole for any American tax payer money.

Compassion? No. The people think with their genitals and have nothing worth saving or salvaging. Efforts to bring jobs were destroyed by corruption

Haiti serves as a horrible example. Haiti is the ultimate resultant of the Africanization of American cities

Apparently this guy was tight with the Clintons for years. I guess the Haitians decided to rid themselves of the deepstate.

Very true. The Spanish American war was not exactly a bright spot, either; there’s been nothing Fake News neocons have pulled since that hasn’t used the same playbook as Hearst.
