A woman facing prison for causing one of the worst crashes in the history of the Tour de France has been arrested after four days on the run.
The suspect – who has not been identified – was arrested today and is now in custody in the small Brittany town of Landerneau. She lives in the Finistere department of Brittany, in which Landerneau is situated, according to an investigating source.
‘She did not have far to travel to get to the race, and clearly knew how to escape after causing so much damage,’ he said.
‘Numerous witnesses were interviewed, and camera footage was also inspected in order to track the suspect down.
‘Now that she has been caught, she has to be questioned at length, to find out exactly what her motives were.’
Prosecutors launched a criminal inquiry following the collapse of an entire peloton on Saturday, when 21 cyclists including Britain’s Chris Froome were seriously hurt.

Jerk spectators ruining golf, too. Please stop with all the “woo-hoo” and “get in the hole”. Same with concerts. And car stereos. And cellphone music. Everybody thinking they are so awesome we want to hear from them.

Don’t know what the rules are, but spectators usually have to stay out of the road anyway because of the team, media and race official cars and motorcycles coming through all the time.
Good point. You can't. And the spectators along the way are not charged an admission. But it is still incumbent on them not to be ass hats. She had to have known the racers were very close as she jumped out in front of them to hold up her stupid sign to I guess, get on camera.
I was appalled on how bad it has gotten when I watched the last couple of golf tournaments on TV. People yelling or clicking cameras while someone is the middle of a swing or taking a putt or running into the fairway.

Well luckily they don’t do the whole 2000 miles in one day, so they don’t have to barricade it all at once. Meanwhile it looks like overall this course is too narrow given all the other crashes.
They look like the same team. This is actually a team event much as we only talk about individuals.

Yep she was the only one that stuck her sign a foot or two out
into the roadway as the riders were passing. If she hadn’t
turned sideways to the road the sign never would have been
out in the roadway.
Take some more colloidal silver because the amount you've taken thus far has only caused major brain damage but not enough to earn you a Darwin Award.

I confess that I have mixed feelings about this. What she did was really boneheded. On the other hand, riding at full speed within inches of people standing on the road is also boneheaded. I’ve put many thousands of miles under me on my bikes and I try not to get so close to people, for just the reason demonstrated in the video. It can be very easy to forget for a second where you are and really want to wave your sign, and then, oops. Yes, she was wrong and should have to pay some price. But I also blame the riders. I see their side from personal experience.
It wasn’t her fault. The other bikers should not have followed so closely. The lead biker wasn’t paying attention to the road conditions.
If you look closely at the video, you'll see that the bike's front wheel was knocked to the right immediately on impact. Cardboard alone does not have enough mass to do that. Her arm must have helped. The reason the cyclist could not recover was that his front tire lost traction when it encountered dirt/gravel on the edge of the road. Once the front tire started sliding to the right, the cyclist might as well have been riding on ice.
It is obvious she had no criminal intent.
