My big time FiPlan group recommends keeping short term cash in my ALLY account as it does better than they can.
Had it for years, easy and relatively convenient

We use Ally and another online-only credit union, along with a bank with local branches.

I closed my Bank of America business account, and using my account at Fidelity. I can deposit checks with my cell phone, have a debit card, send checks for no cost, and transfer money in or out.

All for no fees. I looked at Ally, but I really don't need another account.

I’ve used Ally Bank for the last four years without any problems.

I’ve had an account at Ally (formerly GMAC Bank) since around 2005.

I do my banking at a small, home town bank. They offer everything I need including savings, checking, online banking, ATM machines scattered around town, debit card and credit card, all at no charge. I have been with them for years, nary a hiccup.

Do you pay any fees for that account?

I highly recommend Charles Schwab on-line banking. Been with them for 15 years. Best customer service of any on-line entity of any kind that I've dealt with! You have to open a brokerage account in order to get the checking and savings accounts, but you can keep a tiny amount in the brokerage account.

All accounts are free. Brokerage trades are free. Checks can be deposited by mail or cellphone photo with the Schwab app. Schwab reimburses any ATM fees regardless of whose ATM it is.

Only drawback is that Schwab brick-and-mortar facilities are for investors only - not for everyday banking.

I’ve been seeing ads for another one on YT the past few days. I’ve used prepaids from the grocery store to make payments to sketchy online things. My main concern about these is, there’s no way to know where they’re based, who they are, who owns them, or in what country their complain call center is.

I use USAA for several years no problems. I can buy a car and then drive off w/ insurance since they have insurance also.
I was skeptical at first but tried them first.
They are super good.

Make sure you provide your spouse a list of all your online accounts. Had a relative living with us who died. Everything was online. Didn’t have her phone or other passwords. Was a nightmare cancelling and resolving stuff.

It's the only way to go if you can find a good hometown situation.

Nothing like a living and breathing human if you have a problem.

Definitely go with face to face with living human beings.

Can’t imagine how anyone would get more than a couple hundred in cash if you needed it pronto out of an online account.
