“I Was Just Shaking” - Simone Biles Explains Why She Abruptly Quit Olympic Event
American gymnast Simone Biles said she abruptly stopped competing during the women’s gymnastics team final because she was dealing with mental problems.
Biles, speaking to reporters after the United States was beaten by Russia, said she “just felt like it would be a little bit better to take a back seat, to work on my mindfulness.”
Biles said she suffered no physical injury, despite Team USA saying earlier she was out due to “a medical issue.”
“That’s why I took a step back, because I didn’t want to do something silly out there and get injured,” she said, calling the Olympics “really stressful.”
“We had a workout this morning. It went okay. And then just that five and a half hour wait or something, I was just like shaking, could barely nap. I’ve just never felt like this going into a competition before and I tried to go out here and have fun and warmup in the back went a little bit better. But then once I came out here, I was like, ‘No, mental is not there.’ So I just need to let the girls do it and focus on myself,” she said at the post-competition press conference.
The sudden decision to withdraw despite not being injured proved divisive, drawing some support and some criticism.
Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, said Biles had made her proud.
“We applaud your decision to prioritize your mental wellness over all else, and offer you the full support and resources of our Team USA community as you navigate the journey ahead,” she said in a statement.
But others disagreed with the move.
“We now have decorated Olympic athletes quitting in the middle of the competition because they’re sad. What an absolute embarrassment. But in some ways an appropriate representation of a country that has gone soft,” Matt Walsh, a columnist for the Daily Wire, wrote on Twitter.
Biles still has several individual events on the slate. She has not yet decided whether to participate in them.
Texas House Speaker Issues First Arrest Warrant For Fugitive Democrat Who Fled State
Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R) issued an arrest warrant on Sunday for Democratic Rep. Philip Cortez, who fled the state along with other Democrats to Washington DC in order to stonewall a pair of GOP-backed election integrity bills (and then became super-spreaders).
Citing his constitutional duty to do so, Phelan ordered the sergeant-at-arms or “any officer appointed by him” to arrest Cortez, after the Democratic Rep. vowed to return to Austin for a “good faith dialogue” with his colleagues on the voting legislation. Cortez, however, made a quick 180 and returned to Washington to rendezvous with almost 60 Democratic lawmakers, according to the Washington Examiner.
Cortez’s initial bid to return to the Lone Star State was met with backlash from fellow Democrats, though the lawmaker said his decision to return to the district was due to a lack of “substantive results” in his conversion with House Republicans regarding the voting bills.
“After discussions on improving House Bill 3 have not produced progress, I have rejoined my Democratic colleagues in Washington, D.C. I stand firm in my resolve to remain with the Democratic Caucus until the special session ends and to do whatever it takes to fight for the freedom to vote for all Texans,” he said in a statement. -Washington Examiner

Trump said wokeism makes you lose. At that time he was referring to the American soccer team. But it looks like he has it right on all counts. As usual.

Interesting video - he first shows how Biles and some of the other gymnasts arecwoje, using their own tweets. Then some intereddting analysis on why patriotism matters, what it means, and why the woke lose at the end.
My take is that being woke steals their energy for anything positive, having to be angry all the time.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky says “new data” shows “breakthrough cases” of vaccinated individuals can have as much virus to shed and spread as an unvaccinated person.

CDC REVERSES COURSE: New guidance says people should wear masks indoors, even if you’re vaccinated.
The CDC also urges indoor masks for all teachers, staff, students and visitors to all schools, regardless of vaccination status.
That's another thing I've been wondering. Is there some criteria that must be met for a National Emergency or National Health Emergency? Can they just declare an emergency at any time & in perpetuity without the emergency winding down to some level which would require it to be lifted?
