These people have incredible credentials in relevant fields of science and medicine. Stupidity can't be the explanation.
One should believe the science, and the scientific evidence is overwhelming that ivermectin (IVM) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) are effective for preventing and treating COVID, especially when combined with other drugs.
The studies supporting this conclusion are readily available and endorsed by clinicians and scientists with awesome credentials. See, for example, the work of Pierre Kory and his team, the BIRD Group, Peter McCullough, Harvey Risch, Brett Weinstein/Steve Kirsch/Robert Malone, and many others.
The information has been available since the start of the pandemic. As early as April of 2020, some clinicians were saving their patients and pleading, in vain, with the health authorities to investigate the value of these drugs.
Throughout this time, the major social media companies have suppressed this vital information. Facebook seems to be the most ruthless. You Tube and Twitter are close behind, though some information escapes the eagle eye of the censors.
Facebook's censorship fits ill with its assurance in its SEC filings:

Improper use of “toe the line.”
It does not mean “carry their water” or any similar concept regarding parroting the PARTY line. It means to fight against or to oppose. The opposite of what the headline wants to imply.

Perhaps because the evidence isn’t that overwhelming? Most of these studies are small, and they all test against doing nothing, rather than the current treatment regime used here with a mix of steroids, anti-inflammatory, and anti-coagulation drugs.

These people are Marxist in their ideologies and crony capitalists in their business actions. Marxists are atheistic totalitarian authoritarians and crony capitalists are fascists.
Do we really believe that these persons refuse to look behind the curtain? I certainly don’t. They’re the ones guarding the curtain to protect what’s behind it.
Retaliation and loss of career. A person will passionately believe things that advance their personal career.
Dictionary definition: "accept the authority, principles, or policies of a particular group, especially under pressure." By this definition, this is exactly what many doctors are doing, and it ties in perfectly with the OP's question.
ALL that blocked or withheld treatments that could have saved lives will be held accountable; in this world or the next. They have blood on their hands.

It’s actually worse than that for doctors. If you’re a doctor, you’re licensed. I read where the government had threatened to take a doctor’s license if he prescribed either of the two treatment drugs. Without the license, if the doctor continues to treat patients, he goes to prison. Because of Obamacare legislation, when a doctor prescribes a drug, the government knows about it the moment the prescription is filled. I think the original intention was to track street drugs, but it works at controlling what drugs are available for patients at various levels of government care as well.
If you’ve wondered why banks suddenly come out in favor of some Democratic talking point and cancel accounts for, say, ammunition makers or gun sales locations...they have a license to operate. Take away that license and they have to close their doors.

Social pressure. The rats have made it into a science, and can flip 40% of public opinion at will, including otherwise intelligent people.
Some have. Their careers have been ruined by Demonicrats and their gangster as warnings to others who are thinking of speaking out.

Of course they are afraid.
They also have no margin in promoting it. They get no benefit, just grief.
And it’s less than clear science. So they have reason to be cautious.
