Off-topic, but this study shows *elemental* copper and iron in the plaques of deceased Alzheimers’ patients.
As in not the oxidized form (say, +2 cation) typically found with a metal atom in the active sites of enzymes.
That’s interesting. So the copper and iron that is normally in the body went kind of wonky in the brain? I’m not a scientist so kind of a dumb question I suppose.
Interesting. I wish their sample size was more than 2 brains, however. But maybe there are many more brains being studied at this point.
Elemental copper and iron?
Interesting. For years, as I remember, aluminum was thought to be the culprit. I have assumed that is why we have seen the end of aluminum cookware.
My son worked as a research assistant at UCLA with a doctor conducting a long term brain disorder study. Alzheimer’s was one of the disorders he was studying.
He had a theory that too much iron in the myelin surrounding the brain was a cause of that disease.
Unfortunately, he passed away from pancreatic cancer several years ago. I don’t know if his study was continued.
