Why electric cars will take over sooner than you think

I know, you probably haven't even driven one yet, let alone seriously contemplated buying one, so the prediction may sound a bit bold, but bear with me.

We are in the middle of the biggest revolution in motoring since Henry Ford's first production line started turning back in 1913.

And it is likely to happen much more quickly than you imagine.

Many industry observers believe we have already passed the tipping point where sales of electric vehicles (EVs) will very rapidly overwhelm petrol and diesel cars.

It is certainly what the world's big car makers think.

Jaguar plans to sell only electric cars from 2025, Volvo from 2030 and last week the British sportscar company Lotus said it would follow suit, selling only electric models from 2028.

> Are we going to build more power plants? No? Than EV won’t take off sooner than I think. <

Consider a little child in a toy store. The kid doesn’t know just where his family’s money comes from. But he assumes that the supply is infinite. So he wants to buy everything in the store.

These electric car fanatics are like that little kid. They don’t know just where all that electric power will come from. But they assume that the supply is infinite. So they want to run everything on electricity.

So now the focus is back on electric vehicles.
Two years ago, I kept hearing society was thatclose to having driverless cars on the road in great numbers.
Jury still out on both.

I would think that coal powered cars, which electric cars will be, is kind of hard on the environment. So far it’s out of sight out of mind and they never question where all the electricity is going to come from.

They’re not banning the use of gas powered cars, only the sale of new ones.

So you can keep using your Ford, and who knows, given the lack of new ones it might actually go up in value.

That’s inevitable as electric vehicles become more common. Then, there will be a political backlash, as poor people realize that rich people driving fancy EVs are making poor people pay more for electricity.

Without fuel cells to supply the electricity to power the electrically-driven vehicle, low probability of being able to build enough electric battery-powered vehicles to make up more than a niche portion of the automotive market.

Battery technology is dependent upon too many components that are either in short supply, or are subject to severe market disruptions. Plus, there is a recycling problem in regards to the hazardous components in these batteries.

Electric cars are gonna create rolling blackouts once there are enough of them. The environmentalists will oppose expanding power generation except by unreliable “renewables”. Electric bills are going to go up.

Pure EVs dominating the roads in any expansive nation is simply dumb.

So they have solved the problems of producing enough electricity to power up these electric cars especially in the remote and rural areas? And the manufacture of enough batteries to power all of those cars? I guess that they have already worked out the method of disposal for those batteries after they have expired their “use by” date? I am certain that there are enough Hazmat teams ready to go when there is a “catastrophic disassembly” of those battery packs when the inevitable accident occurs? There are other questions but I’ll hold off on those for the time being.

Just a thought or two.....

...2200 miles round trip. 32 hours of driving and tanking gas. My week long vacation to visit a relative would be twice as long—with half the time on the road—in an EV.

“Duh. You could FLY there and back in a fraction of the time and cost!”

True. But I like the freedom(!) of having my car with me to do what I want whenever and whereever I go! Even on long trips! I’ll take 16 hours of me in control of my destiny behind the wheel (and associated costs) over 8 hours of flying with the airlines, being hassled by TSA, and arranging for transportation at the destination to cover the same distance!

The only reason electric vehicles exist at all is because of huge government subsidies. The only reason they will take over is because our tyrannical government will force us to stop driving gas powered cars.
