'Tree farts' from a ghost forest in North Carolina are releasing greenhouse gases, experts find

'Tree farts' from so-called 'ghost forests' in North Carolina are contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, according to experts from North Carolina State University.

Dead trees -- also known as snags -- in these 'ghost forests' release carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide in trace amounts (as does the nearby soil) that are contributing on some level to greenhouse gases.

'Even though these standing dead trees are not emitting as much as the soils, they're still emitting something, and they definitely need to be accounted for,' the study's lead author Melinda Martinez, a graduate student in forestry and environmental resources at NC State, said in a statement. 'Even the smallest fart counts.'

Every living thing on earth is a carbon life form; we all emit carbon. BFD.

The Smoky Mountains are actually emitting flatulence?

I say we take off and nuke them from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

Sounds like the dead wood that enviro-nuts won't let timber companies cut down are getting their revenge.

Even the smallest fart counts. What a bunch of sickos. Hey....blame mother nature....not man. She really did a sh** a** job...which is why we're all living in a wooden or kiln dried brick house, heating with gas and electric, growing enough food to feed millions and millions.

Yeh...that mother nature is a failure.

So in order to “go green”, the trees have to go and the soil definitely has to go. Got it.

In this woman’s mind, the only way to survive is eradicate the trees and soil. Therefore just live on a Waterworld like that Kevin Costner movie.

Trees are also the leading cause of forest fires and also contain dangerous compounds such as dihydrogen monoxide which is a powerful solvent found in many poisons and industrial chemicals and has now been detected in every ocean of the planet as far away as the arctic. DHM has been responsible for thousands of times more deaths than covid.

Ban ALL fart emitting trees, be they be alive, dead,
minute, gigantic. After all, they would do the same
for cows and other LIVING creatures.

Ghost farts, farts in general - now, THAT’s a load of malarkey!
D’rats and their five and dime store math makes no
sense.

I thought this was all part of the carbon cycle. Not exactly a groundbreaking discovery.

'Even though these standing dead trees are not emitting as much as the soils.

Rid the planet of the standing dead trees, but much worse are the soils. Rid the planet of all soil. Build more parking lots.

Trees are carbon neutral by their very existence. Everything you see of a plant came from the air. It eventually goes back to the air. Also methane is lighter than air and if it is not combusted or chemically reacted in some way it floats up out of the atmosphere and gets blown away into space by the solar wind. This is why carbon is only 14th in abundance among all the elements in the earth’s crust compared to fourth in abundance in the entire universe. Helium is second in the universe and only trace in the earth’s crust so among crustal elements carbon is third in the universe.
