I never thought it would happen to me!
April 16th, Kiteboarding at Desoto Beach Florida, I fell and when I stood up Bam!! Stingray Barb right in the bottom of my foot!! The bastard got me good because the water turned Crimson around me almost immediately! I made my way back into the beach, wrapped my foot the best I could, stowed my gear in the van and headed to Palm Medical Center near Treasure Island.
Long story short, I got 2 X-rays on my foot to check for pieces of the Barb, a little saline flush syringe, and the Doc glued the loose skin and filled the hole. Told me no water for 2 weeks... I came home!
Last week I got 2 calls from their billing department. the first was mild, but the second one today, was pushy, trying to get me to sign up for Medicaid to pay for the bill. The first call wouldnt tell me the amount. but told me they would send the bill in the mail. Today's call, told me the amount was $8000 and change... I said are you Bleeping kidding my?? 2 xrays, a plastic syringe douche and glue is 8K???? Her response!?? Well if you sign up for Medicaid, they will pay it no problem!!!
I lost it and told her that I think I'm getting ripped off, and i'll be damned if I'm gonna allow you to rip of the Tax payers!!
Now granted, 8K isnt jack in the medical field. but its just the friggin point... How determined the girls were to get me to sign up to pay the bill... friggin Crazt!!
so, I think its a clear case of fraud... who do I lay this on for the best results??
thanks for the input...
You were not overcharged, YOU chose to go to the er, you could have gone to urgent care for much less.
it was explained by someone else so you dont have to duck answering it... and the answer I did get was shy of facts but somewhat logical. but to say “Tax Payers” are picking up a the slack of $5,500 on actual $2,500 costs of an 8K bill , is nothing short of grasping at straws to drive home your argument. so I say for the last time... you and the othe piss ant can go play with yourselves...
but you’ve already said you intend to default on the hospital, and pay a debt collector — hilariously enough, because it’s cheaper (for you), and you don’t like “handouts”. if the Florida taxpayers haven’t been screwed yet, it’s only a matter of time.
and you say that this is the way you’ve been doing it for years. you’re running a scam.
i did go to urgent care... they didnt have an x ray machine and they told me to go to the ER... so if you wernt there, you can piss off as well...
Hospitals receive money from insurance companies, patients, individuals who pay for patients (e.g., family members) charities and governments. And some of the charities are indirectly funded by governments (states, IIRC, receive funding if charities exist). It’s a mess that many would like to see more organized. But the organizing would probably cost us even more. We need more market chaos in the market of medical insurance, IMO. There are too many anti-competition regulations.
You could try to negotiate a deal and keep trying.
so, if you believe a random person on an internet message forum, you’re only intentionally porking the taxpayers in Florida for $6k, instead of $8k.
that’s very gracious of you.
then it was a lucky day for the urgent care guys; they have no idea how narrowly they averted an encounter with a health care fraudster.
My husband partially chopped off his finger. Long story short, he received a hospital bill of some atrocious amount. We went to the hospital, spoke to a woman in billing (I think she was a manager), and it was reduced. It went from something like $18,000 to $1,800. The results of the procedure were terrible, so there was that.
All in all, no muss, no fuss. She was the person that taught me that hospitals charge whatever they think they can get away with. I asked her what the charge would be for someone coming in for gallbladder surgery. She said there was no way anyone at the hospital could quote a price. I asked if there was a ballpark figure. She said no. Basically when going to the hospital it’s like handing them a blank check if you’re paying cash.
I’m sure you can get the price knocked way down. What these medical providers are doing to cash customers is wrong wrong wrong.
he has no time for reasonable solutions to his problem. he’s hell bent on screwing SOMEBODY, anybody, in fact, because someone gave him a number for his emergency medical care that he didn’t like, but had no intention of paying in the first place.
I love ya, man!
you dodged my question yet again... so I’ll try again...
Bill 8k
actual costs $2,500
Sit-rep would gladly pay $3000 no problem...
“Tax Payers” $5,500...
Now take a real good hard fkg look at that and tell me just WHO is screwing your “Tax Payers”!??
But the deductible would only be for the negotiated rates (from the insurance company rates) not the 8k. So, could be less than the deductible max.
You told the er you were self pay and with the Dr, rn xray tech the overhead piles up.
easy. you are.
I went out for steak last night. it was $30, but I think that steak should have only cost $15. I’m going to wait in the parking lot of the restaurant tonight and mug the waiter. after all, he’s the one that gouged me.
So what state do you practice ‘law’? Asking for a friend.
No one in the history of the world has ever done gall bladder surgery, so how could they POSSIBLY know what to charge?
Just like auto mechanics and auto dealerships used to pretend that no one had EVER done "that procedure" to a car before, so they couldn't give you a quote - until lawmakers "got their minds right".
Health care and lawyers are gonna get automated one of these days, too - and they're NOT going to like it a bit.
agree!! Hope hubbys doin okay!!
My dad had a warped finger from a bad break and heal and when he pointed at us, we would move to the left a little. he’d stop mid sentence and say... What the he** are you doing? I’d answer... getting in line with your finger... he’d just bust up laughing... that was the end of the lecture! lol...
Ok ahole peace out,
