Inflation is coming.

Look no further than Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble sharing plans this week to raise prices to offset rising commodity costs. The costs of raw materials, ranging from lumber to resin, are surging, so companies are taking steps to protect profits.

ING Chief International Economist James Knightley is forecasting consumer prices will continue to rise in the near term and could gain almost 4% by May, compared with the same time a year ago. The consumer price index, which tracks how much U.S. consumers pay for a basket of goods, rose 2.6% in March from the year-ago period, according to the Department of Labor.

Low inventory is helping companies flex their pricing power, he said.

Moody’s analyst Linda Montag said that she doesn’t view higher prices as a competitive advantage because all consumer companies are facing higher commodity costs. Besides Coke and P&G, PepsiCo, Kimberly-Clark, General Mills and J.M. Smucker have addressed raising prices. And consumers might not even notice that they’re paying more for diapers or soda.

“Consumer companies across the board have gotten very savvy about how to implement price increases without just slapping on five to 10% price increases...

Hopefully Biden remembers these buttons from the 1970s. Issue one to every American, Joe. But this time make wearing it mandatory.

yes, if they switch to liters, people might think the price of gas went down.

In round numbers, $4 per gallon would be about $1 per liter.

Who knows, as prices continue to rise, they may switch to the price per liter just to disguise how high prices are going.

Looks like Coke will need to get more Chinese slave labor to hold down costs.

People notice. Before 2020 I noticed that half gallon ice cream has now become 1.75 quarts instead of two quarts. Toothpaste used to come in 8 oz sizes. Now I see a lot of 6 oz tubes of toothpaste.

According to a sibling, I passed the critical weight test not just by pounds but by pant size during the pandemic.

#1. Can you still wear comfortably, jeans or good slacks, not sweats that you owned and wore before the pandemic? If so that is a good sign. I not only wear the a pair of good slacks, I have to cinch my belt an extra notch.

#2. How much weight did you gain during the pandemic. Most people gained between 1.5 pound per month or 18 pounds. I gained 4 pounds. I had the second toe on my right foot removed as it’s hammer toe got worse. The wt gain came after my foot surgery in last fall. 0 weight gain before the surgery.

We split a Klondike Bar, and the Tater Tots are measured out by my wife. We have been wanting to try the sweet Potato Tots, the store can’t buy enough. Sweet potatoes/yams are the new best seller in this area. We share about 2/3 of the big ones each week.

I almost never power up my DSLR anymore. Hard pressed to find a good reason.

Stock footage commissions have ranked. They pay pennies now.

Did you feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced?

No, just a little headache.

I keep griping how the product downsizing really screws with recipes. Pretty rare to find 16 ounces of anything. Even 8 ounces isn’t 8 ounces anymore, and this really did start under the Zero/HidenBiden administration.

The supply chain is very messed up.

I have been telling people if you know what you want for Christmas gifts, buy them now.

Covid blew it out of the water.
