Oh Yeah - the future of dining out - as few human employees as possible. Its all about the cost of staffing not-dependable humans.
Oh, good. It isn’t Hooters.
As a guy who works in the technology field if you do not believe that soon robots will not replace unskilled labor, I got a bridge to sell you, it is happening.
We were already headed there pre-COVID anyway. Look at how several restaurant chains were heavily invested in electronic payment systems that operate at the table.
Guy goes into a bar and of all things there’s a robot bartender. Since the minimum wage was increased to $15 the bar owner had to replace his human bartender.
The robot says “what will you have?” The guy says “martini”. The robot brings the man the best martini ever and says “what’s your IQ?”. The man says “168”. The robot then proceeds to talk about physics, space exploration, and medical technology.
The guy then leaves but is still curious. So he turns around and returns to the bar. The robot says “what will you have?” Guy says “martini” The robot again makes the best martini ever and say “what’s your IQ?” The guy says “100”. The robot then talks about NASCAR, Budweiser and John Deere tractors.
The guy leaves but is even more interested so he returns yet again. “What will you have?” A “martini” guy says and the robot makes yet another great martini. “What’s your IQ?” says the robot. The guys say “oh, about 50”.
The robot leans in real close and says “so, you people still happy you voted for biden?”
Oh gosh. Who thought $15/hour mandatory minimum wages could lead this this?
...and so it began.
Within a decade, robots swept through one industry after another, dramatically dropping costs, and changing the nature of human work forever.
must have been interesting in high school with that moniker.
;>)
I can’t blame the owner. Florida approves a $15 minwage last year, and lots of people simply don’t want to go back to work.
There is a sushi chain that is similar. Humans sit you at your seat and bring your drinks, but you either help your self from a conveyor belt that has sushi coming by your table or order from a menu and your order comes out on a different conveyor belt. When finished, you feed your dishes into a slot and that’s how they figure your bill. You do settle your bill with a person (who makes sure your put all your dishes in).
Lovely Rita, Meter Maid, and she comes with her own meter!
Had to visit an Advance Auto Parts warehouse. I couldn’t believe the ages of some of the employees. They had to be in their mid eighties. They moved like molasses but the manager told me they pulled their weight. I also see lots of elderly people working at my local Ace Hardware. By elderly, I mean mid eighties. (Elderly is 20 years older than me. When I’m in my mid eighties it’ll be 105 or so.)
The Ace always has signs up looking for employees. The same is true at the Gulf Coast Lumber store.
There are loads of young people and I have to wonder why they are so seldom seen at these places as employees.
I’ll eat at home.
Rd later.
