CHICAGO—Scientists at Johnson & Johnson on Friday refuted an assertion in a major medical journal that the design of their COVID-19 vaccine, which is similar AstraZeneca’s, may explain why both have been linked to very rare brain blood clots in some vaccine recipients.
The United States earlier this week paused distribution of the J&J vaccine to investigate six cases of a rare brain blood clot known as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST), accompanied by a low blood platelet count, in U.S. women under age 50, out of about 7 million people who got the shot.
The blood clots in patients who received the J&J vaccine bear close resemblance to 169 cases in Europe reported with the AstraZeneca vaccine, out of 34 million doses administered there.
Both vaccines are based on a new technology that uses a modified version of adenoviruses, which cause the common cold, as vectors to ferry instructions to human cells.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is scrutinizing this design behind both vaccines to see if it is contributing to the risk.
In a letter on Friday in the New England Journal of Medicine, J&J scientists refuted a case report published earlier this week by Kate Lynn-Muir and colleagues at the University of Nebraska, who asserted that the rare blood clots “could be related to adenoviral vector vaccines.”
In an interview with Reuters on Thursday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. infectious disease expert and an adviser to the White House, said the fact that they are both adenovirus vector vaccines is a “pretty obvious clue” that the cases could be linked to the vector.
“Whether that is the reason, I can’t say for sure, but it certainly is something that raises suspicion,” Fauci said.

BTW, I'm now +10 days after receiving the J&J vaccine. Other than suffering the effects of being off my biological med used to manage my auto-immune disorder (which are horrible in their own way ...) I have zero side-effects from the J&J vaccine.
I didn't get the "sore arm" after the shot. My arm itched quite a bit where I received it and consequently I spent a fair amount of time rubbing/scratching the area where I received the shot.
For those who don't know, those of us with auto-immune disorders have to be off our med two weeks prior to receiving any of the emergency use vaccines, and remain off it for two weeks after so as not to interfere with the vaccine.
Being off my biologic med for two weeks prior was no big deal. (Actually three weeks for me since there was a scheduling issue that caused a delay.) It wasn't until about 4 days ago now where I passed the four week+ mark w/o being on my biologic med that I really started feeling the impact of being off it. I've four days to go until I can take it again and it's gonna be rough.
Before anyone asks why I took the J&J vaccine: I'm one of those people the China Virus has a good chance of killing due to my genetic, auto-immune disorder. I spent more than a year boosting my immune system with Vitamin D, Zinc, eating fresh raw fruits and vegetables, getting exercise, losing weight (Yay me!) I've been in constant touch with my auto-immune disorder specialist since the vaccines became available. His initial advice was to wait until data became available regarding the impacts of them on people such as I. His recommendation ultimately became to take the J&J vaccine since it has the least amount of side effects on people such as myself. As I was diagnosed with this condition more than thirty years ago now and he's the only doctor who actually got me feeling better in all that time, I took his advice and got the J&J shot.
Yes, I had and continue to have moral concerns about it and yes, I understand and have empathy for both sides of the debate here. This was a personal choice as it will be for everyone whether or not they choose to take one of the emergency use "vaccines" to combat the China Virus.
Finally, I pray to Almighty God I did the right thing. Not just for me, for those I love and for those who I'll be exposed to over time. I could never live with myself if I became a carrier of the damn' China Virus, gave it to someone else and it permanently injured or killed them. That's a consequence I cannot accept. I *can* accept it if the "vaccine" harms or kills me and me alone.

J&J sounds particularly suited for your condition, with only a single shot requiring the suspension of your meds.
Well now you have strong immunity against COVID, and that disease is no joke for those with risk factors.

Look up died and it says 3000 plus. We are trying to get a real number and it is hiding behind a 99,999 number for males and females on the CDC website.

Look in the mirror. They talked you into a vaccine that will likely damage your immune system and you come on here calling people names. The side effects will hit you next flu season and can take up to 10 yrs to happen.

Well, the fact that we don’t know the mechanism of the micro vascular injury in SARS CoV 2 infection, but we do know that it occurs late (suggesting an immune pathogenesis), I would not be so quick to dismiss the idea that it is a rare effect of all the vaccines.

Well, half of my family is vaccinated and the other half have appointments, so obviously I believe the published numbers on vaccine associated clots generate better odds than having COVID (which is bad).
