After over three decades of Microsoft Windows success, there have been some clear failures along the way. With that in mind, we’ve picked the six worst versions of Windows. All of these made us want to stick to older, better versions of Windows, or use alternatives like Macs or Linux instead.
The Ranking Criteria Most of us know a bad version of Windows when we see it. Maybe we’ve experienced personal pain in wrestling with its bugs, or lost time reinstalling it over and over again, or heard stories about how often it’s crashed.
In developing this list, we considered the following metrics: How much people hated each version (appearances on other worst-of lists), how poorly it sold, how slowly it was adopted, how bad its reviews were, the length of its lifespan on the market, and our own personal experiences with the software. For fun, we also googled “Windows [x] Sucks,” and tallied up the results.
Honestly, there’s no hard science to this, so you might not agree with our exact ranking, but we can confidently predict this: If you ran at least one of these versions of Windows, you wanted to upgrade.
Me too!
Dos - Win 3 - W95 - Xp -Win 7-
ain't going further from what I see of my wife's Win10 machine.
While others complain about Windows Vista, I got lucky and never had a problem with it.
Now, Windows 8, that was an insult to computer users.
And the CEO of the company that pushed these crap releases on the Windows users is now trying to push COVID vaccines and masks and all things leftist.
It’ll be just like his OS releases where the vaccines are not fully tested and the expectation is that the public will be the final test and debug of the vaccines.
BEWARE!!!
The Blue Screen of Death will be redefined to mean actual death of the recipient of the vaccine.
Loved Windows XP Service Pack 2...
Still have two functional systems as VM's and one old workstation that I still (occasionally) fire up and use for a few of things...
Vista stunk at first, but by the time it was patched it was as close to Windows 7 without being Windows 7 as it could be. It wasn’t half bad towards the end of its life.
The 6 Worst Versions of Windows?
How about the next 6 versions?
It isn’t going to get any better is it?
That would be me! Wasn’t there a Windows 98 or something? To my knowledge that’s the worst with XP/Vista tied for second. I will state that Windows 3.1 actually worked...not very well but it at least worked! 98 was the prototype for releasing untested software and having the customers do the beta testing. It was genius from a marketing perspective...having your customers pay you to do your beta testing!
Agreed. I still have XP on a hard drive that I can reinstall in my desktop if I wanted to.
Frankly I’ve never seen any reason to “upgrade” from XP. Once it was SPed it worked just fine.
Actually you were paying Bill gates to do his beta testing...evil bastard!
Win10 won’t see my android cell phone and there’s no fix for it. Too “old”. Win7 never had any trouble with it.
Get a Mac.
I skipped 8,Vista and ME. My favorites are XP (Professional) and 7.
Yep same list here... And I switched to linux as soon as Win 10 came out. I will never look back again. “piece of mind without hassle” is a huge thing...
ping to you!
Agree.
> I remembered going from the beauty of Windows XP Service Pack 2 to the nightmare of Vista. <
Yep. Windows ME wasn’t all that bad, for me at least. No doubt in my mind that Vista should be #1.
