I have a few chunks of petrified wood from the Gingko petrified forest in Eastern Washington. It’s now a state park.

I am confused. Isnt most volcanic ash black or dark grey? The area around the base is very white. It seems to be sand or chalk. Did the tree get moved? Does ash “bleach” in the sun?

Nice!
I stayed in an apartment-style hotel (probably a failed apartment complex) in Tucumcari NM that had a bunch of petrified stumps in its courtyard. They didn’t bill it that way, I just noticed when I was wandering around early in the morning. They were too big to fit in my car...

Wait. Are you saying there is hard wood on the Island of Lesbos?
That just doesn’t seem possible.

It’s just sandy soil, by the look of it, arrived there via erosion.

When I was a kid in Misssissippi, I used to find pieces of petrified wood all the time. Didn’t think much about it.............

They’ve been digging since 1995 to find a tree?

What did the poor dogs do on this island for all these years?
