Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr. issued the following statement today regarding the 2021 All-Star Game:
"Over the last week, we have engaged in thoughtful conversations with Clubs, former and current players, the Players Association, and The Players Alliance, among others, to listen to their views. I have decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft.
"Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box. In 2020, MLB became the first professional sports league to join the non-partisan Civic Alliance to help build a future in which everyone participates in shaping the United States. We proudly used our platform to encourage baseball fans and communities throughout our country to perform their civic duty and actively participate in the voting process. Fair access to voting continues to have our game’s unwavering support.
I loathe Manfred. His takeover of minor league baseball resulted in our local minor league team being demoted from AAA to Low A ball. Today’s announcement is adds insult to injury.
Does anybody know how moving these games or other events violate contractual obligations? An MLB call the new las an act of god or something?
Done with MLB. Have a long family history of players and the whole culture. It’s now Dead. Where’s Elston Howard when you need him?
Safe to say it’s not moving to Texas or Arizona.
Deep State owns the court system.
Contract law, like the Constitution, now means whatever Deep State says it does.
It’ll be interesting to see if the players care, or if they’re cool as long as their checks clear.
What about MLB sponsors?
Apparently Manfred doesn’t like fair elections and he doesn’t think Blacks are smart enough to get a photo ID.
No law was ever passed and signed in Georgia.
Ditto.
I am now down to my beloved Georgia Bulldogs. Please Kirby, don’t do anything stupid!
I guess they did everything except read the bill.
All they have actually done is prove their ignorance, of what there was little doubt anyway.
smh
MLB = Moron Lowlife Buttheads
Shut down of Atlanta a.k.a. Black Wall Street? That’s Racist, fo shor
The is no evidence that any legitimate voter would be denied their vote under the Georgia legislation. This is just more caving to BLM activists who have no interest in ever allowing free and fair elections in this country now that they have demonstrated they can fix any election at will.
Next move he will make is to eliminate the DH rule in the National League. He tried to do it this year but cannot come to an agreement with the Players' Union because he tried to get them to agree to expand the playoffs. But it's coming (universal DH rule).
And the puppets just keep on marching.
“ He could have at least specified why.
I sincerely doubt it. There is absolutely nothing onerous in the bill. It simply reduces the ability to cheat. Hold them accountable and they holler racism. It really is a joke at this point.
Requires an ID for an absentee ballot.
yes, contracts are being broken by major league baseball in moving the All Star Game.
I hope it hits them in the wallet big time. In the worst case they could owe millions in damages, but would not be surprising to see out of court settlements of such cases.
Then there are increased costs of moving the game to another city on short notice.
I guess Manfred is willing to see baseball lose more money, after the sports lost billions of dollars on operations last season. Go for it, Rob.
If they were intellectually honest, that they can’t abide business in a state with this voter law, they would revoke the Braves franchise, and dissolve the team or move it elsewhere.
Take it to NYC so DeBlabio can tax the hell out of you and your players.
