It’s coming ..... (for a few days, anyway):

Tues 67/40
Wed 70/52
Thurs 72/57
Fri 73/57
Sat 60/?

Nights in the 50’s are tomato planting weather, but I’m not fooled .... it’s only March & I’m sure we’ll have some more “cold weather shots”! Mid-April is about the earliest I’ll chance tomatoes.

Meanwhile, back at the garden for this coming week .... I’m going to turn my compost pile (a major job), go over my raised beds (a few small green sprigs popping up - want to stay ahead of the weeds) & majorly weed the last bed that needs it in the Hummingbird Garden. My tractor-style mower (that pulls a cart) is working again, so I might be hauling some wood chips.

Since I added the 4 raised beds for flowers, my garden area is now at a stage where if I squared it off, I will have a corner that I could use for something else. What I have always wanted is a fire pit and I think this is going to be the spot. A nice fire, glass of wine, drag a rocking chair off the porch, have some friends over .... I’ll probably decide whether or not to do it after this coming week. Fire pit will be something I can easily move ... just in case I want to add more raised beds to that area. :-)

Must be Spring! Oranges are ripe and my lemon and tangerine trees are blooming (along with tons of bees - hey, doing my part to keep up the bee population! They also love my lavender which is in bloom as well - but shouldn't I get some of the honey?)

Zone 5.

I’d like to buy a hobby greenhouse and have been searching online.

The size I want is about 6 X 10 to 8 X 12.

I’ve looked at Palram, Growspan, Rion, and Riga.

It gets windy around this part of northern Ohio in the spring and fall and I’m wondering how a hobby greenhouse would do.

Anyone got any advice?

Lavender started, although still waiting on some seeds.

The rosemary seeds came up!

So have the black eyed susans and daisies. The coneflower is just starting and I am having a devil of a time starting painted daisies.

I live in mtns and last frost date is May 24. I love gardening (veggies and flowers) but don’t have a green thumb and have never been able to grow lettuce from seed. So this yr I’m buying lettuce PLANTS online.

My question: how early can i plant? I would hope to plant in late Apr, and cover with bucket when hard frost predicted. Any advice on growing lettuce?

I’m looking so forward to spring this yr...as is everyone.

Bought LED light and self watering seed tray, since I am working away from home half the week. One LED light made in Taiwan, not China, found at home depot.

Discovered that heating mat not working real well. Planted seeds, which will probably sprout and develop at different rates, causing issues.

Some seed packets were 15 years old, dumped them or planted them all.

Today, during breaks at work, starting a dozen winter sowing soda bottles.

Tetsukobuto squash the only ones not killed by borers, old seeds, none up so far in germination test. Why didn’t I replant earlier? Oh the deer, that’s right. Finally got up a deer fence last year, have to fix snow damage. Deer were so hungry they ate Japanese holly which they never touched in 20 years.

I wanted to cook my wife a steak for supper with some onions slathered over it and pepper sauce. I went to the cupboard and saw that a few of my onions had started to sprout. We had a pot on the terrane that wasn't being used so I put them in, covered them with dirt and watered them. Will they turn into onion trees?

I find myself yearning for spring, too. Haven't been out looking at peoples' yards. I am told that crocus is coming up. I know I won't see my hostas on my balcony until very late April or early May. Have to think about what I want in my window boxes this year. The lantana dried out too easily, so maybe ice flowers or flowering succulents. And, I just found a company which sells mini crape myrtle trees so small you can put them in a hanging basket. They also have some 2', 3', and 4' ones. I'm thinking about getting one of those little guys and putting it into a 10 gallon fabric Grow Bag on my balcony instead of getting geraniums this year. I love crape myrtles and, until I find my little house, would love being able to have one on my balcony.

I also bought a hummingbird feeder last year post season. When should I start putting it out with sugar water? Do I need flowers around it to attract hummers?

We’ve had a nice weather week here in Central Missouri. Warm and dry. Several days into the low 70s. Bedroom window open at night.

Grandkids arrived from Ft. Riley Friday evening. Back ribs on the smoker Saturday. Golf cart and pony rides for the kids. No takers on my request to help pull weeds in the garden. lol

Spent a couple hours on Saturday cleaning the garden. Burned off the duff and accumulated tree leaves. Got back out there yesterday and pulled the last of the dead course weeds from last season. Took down the last of the tomato cages. I want to add some compost before I till. Need the ground to settle up just a bit so I don’t make ruts in the yard with the tractor. Couple days should do it. With any good luck I’ll be planting spring greens next weekend.

No Italian tomato or pepper seed this year due to brown rugose virus? S***.
