Washington Football Team replaces NFL's oldest cheerleading squad with coed dance ensemble following sexual harassment claims by former dancers

The Washington Football Team is replacing the NFL's longest-running cheerleading squad with a coed dance ensemble, but the franchise is insisting that the move is part of its ongoing rebranding and not related to any accusations of sexual harassment by former dancers.

Washington began rebranding last year after dropping the team nickname, the Redskins, which many Native Americans found to be racist. The rebranding has no end in sight, and it is not known when a new team name will be announced.

Washington will not have the first coed dance team in the NFL. The Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots both have men on their cheerleading squads.

Meh. High schools and colleges have men on the cheer squad. But I don’t know how adding men will reduce the risk of sexual harassment.

I have long wondered why women - especially really GOOD LOOKING one - would want to be cheerleaders for a pro sports team. Well, let me modify that - besides the glamour, and the chance to be seen on TV, and the chance to get a piece of some hunky athlete - given the possible downsides (pun not intended) and risks, why would a GOOD LOOKING women want to do this?

The cheerleaders get to meet the wealthy/connected people who can afford the stadium "luxury boxes". Many attractive women want the opportunity to meet wealthy men.
