WASHINGTON, D.C. — Although it may feel like North Carolina hit a crucial benchmark in returning to normalcy from COVID-19 this week, Dr. Anthony Fauci is voicing concern for states that have pulled back on regulating limits on social life.
In an interview with "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd, Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, advised caution for what he feels is prematurely lifting restrictions among some states.
North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia all eased major restrictions on Friday, as did Massachusetts, Arkansas and Wyoming. Several other states eased some level of restrictions. The loosening of rules came days after the nation passed the 500,000 death mark from COVID-19.
"We had a graphic showing about a dozen states, some, like North Carolina, allowing more fans in the stands. We had more indoor bars being open and things like this," Todd began his line of questioning. "You and [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director] Dr. [Rochelle] Walensky were like 'not yet.' Why not yet? Why is this week not the week yet to ease restrictions?"
"It's really too premature right now to be pulling back too much," said Fauci, who's come under the public eye since the start of the pandemic. "I'm concerned that we're still at that level of 70,000 [infections per day], and when people start then pulling back on mitigation methods and mitigation activities, you have the risk, and it is a real risk, of seeing it go back up, and it's not something I'm imagining. Go back and look at the surges that we've had over the past year. It was always at a time when you wanted to pull back."

“I tell people all the time, this is NEVER going away.
When have the Rats ever let go of a “crisis”?”
you are so right.
My theory is they want the current lockdowns and restrictions to continue at least through Nov 2022 so they can cheat on those elections with all mail in votes again.
AMEN!
Agree.
Fauci has a boss?
Agree unless it’s Gates or Soros - did not think he did.
As always....follow the money.
Agree.
It happens a lot in gov. He has had 50 years of pay raises.
Really? We are going to continue to give credence to the Keebler Elf?
Fauci, fauci, fauci!! When in crisis, when in doubt, run in circles , scream and SHOUT! (Wodehouse paraphrased)
Here in Western NC, most folks have been ignoring many of Fauci’s dictates.
We still have many restaurants with limited seating, but others have put up plexiglass shields between booths and are at full capacity. Most folks are wearing masks, but not all, especially in Lowe’s & Home Depot.
The State keeps sending me a message to download their “Covid-19 Tracking App”, to let me know if I’ve been in contact with anyone testing positive. Creepy!
No thanks.
Remove all f@#$ing restrictions. Forcibly rip the f@#$#@ing masks off anyone seen wearing one in public. Run Fauci through the streets buck nekkid, chased by Doberman Pinchers. Do not waste good tar and feathers on him, just make sure he goes away and never comes back.
Yeah he has a pay grade higher than the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.
Addendum. If found dead, piss on him and walk on.
Our Socialist Guvner Roy Cooper here in NC will be glad to suck....up to Falseci.
And states like FL, the Dakotas, and NH which have basically never locked down or did so briefly and have been open for months, are doing just fine.
Here in Arizona we are beginning to see people wearing two masks at a time - a paper one under a cloth one.
And the maskies are becoming more aggressive to those of us who resist.
Fauci is way past his shelf life. At least Birx was smart enough to know when to exit.
I’m not into “shaming”, but it’s long past time that maskers receive a strong dose of their own behavior ... especially those breathtakingly irrational maskers who hide their faces with this talisman while in their car or while outdoors.
The wife and I just got back from a round-robin trip from Charlotte over to the coast and down. Got as far up as Buxton for the lighthouse and then down to Myrtle Beach. Ate several meals at Jason’s restaurant in Ocracoke. Masked up to enter; took off as soon as we sat down. Same story at all of the restaurants down the coast. We spent probably less than one tenth of one percent masked during the entire trip...state ferry rides and all. Generally, a beautiful week.
That and "climate change."
