That caught my attention too.

Contrast this with the treatment given the unarmed lady patriot shooting at the Capitol.

He’s a great shot! At least it kills them instantly with no suffering. But it does scare the rest of them.

I didn’t think of that (the smell). Ok, note to self: making the chicken viewing area farther away!

oh my goodness, poor little Gertrude! And she couldn’t take as aspirin or have a hangover remedy.

Do most chickens like beer?

Anyone not familiar with our thread may think they have stumbled onto the “Farm Report” today. LOL

I wish I had something to add but the only thing I know about chickens was taught to me by the pubbies in Congress.

And on that note, chickens have my humble apology for besmirching their good name.

I feel the same way. The cows around here live in paradise. I’d much rather they have a nice life, then have it end humanely than have them suffer. I hated driving by the hot CA feedlots.

Happy Popcorn Lover's Day! I guess we can share with the chickens; looks like there's plenty. And we need all the popcorn we can get.

Lol. Well at the time I had horse, burro and goat manure, plus eggshells, fruit peel, coffee grounds, etc, to compost with. I usually grew a good sized garden, organic. Lots of good food if a goat didn’t get out and chow down.. That, and horses, is the only thing I miss about that life. I did have horses and small gardens when I could as an adult.

Yes, where was the looting and burning in Ashli Elizabeth Babbitt’s honor?

We don’t even know the name of the person who shot her.

He’s supposed to be a WH Officer but was he really?

Ashli’s family is thinking of a lawsuit but haven’t heard any more about it.

LOL, too funny! But true as well.

I have a chicken-related question, one I know I should know already. I bought some chicken thighs, boneless. Cuz they were on sale and the breasts were not. I”m cheap. I wanted them for a crockpot recipe. If it were the breasts, the recipe said just put them in the pot with other stuff and cook. But these thighs have all sorts of icky stuff attached. Fat for sure, but also maybe tendons? And a membrane - fascia maybe? Do I need to remove this stuff before cooking? (Not the fascia or whatever it is, I'd have nothing left!)

oh that looks SO good! I might have to make some today.

I had a chicken-cooking question I should’ve pinged you on. It’s upthread just a little .

I remember those.

Could smell them miles away.

If they’re boneless they should be fine as is, depending on if you want the skin or not. They will take a bit longer to cook than white meat does.

I worked with a PETA activist once. She was really getting on my and another guy’s case for enjoying hunting. I told her how the animals in slaughterhouses are so scared and mistreated and that in hunting, the animal doesn’t know it’s coming, much more humane. She actually thought about it and understood.

Lol!

Sorry to turn it into a farm thread, I could talk all day about it (and it appears I have!)

So sad. And then when there was a heat wave they’d lose a bunch of them. The nice places had misters. But there were plenty that didn’t.

No, no, don’t be sorry.

I’m actually enjoying all the “farm” talk.

And I do miss our neighbor’s goats every time I have veggies to throw away.

They were better than a garbage disposal.
